Believe me, they make more than enough...

Just for some balance. I had a claim rejected by the AA mini warranty on a P38 about 10 years ago.

The infamous BECM started playing up, AA man diagnosed problem and said he’d call a recovery truck to take me to my local independent. I told him not to worry as I would use my re-sync tool to get it to start and get it there myself. There were other electrical issues so it needed to be sorted it hadn’t just lost sync.

BECM was sent away and repaired, total bill £550. No problem I thought 90% of the cost covered. Wrong, because I’d driven the car there myself I’d proved it wasn’t broken Sad

I thought I was doing them all a favour, lesson learned and all that.

I see the payout is still £500, it was that 10 years ago. I’d love to see how much repair bills have gone up in that time.

Mikey do you own an independent in Dundee?

Do you think the main dealer is at complete fault if I asked about the bushes and they didnt bring up the MOT Insurance when I asked was it covered under my warranty? all smug in my new plug!

Just a further thought, is it worth keeping the car and making the journey to Mikey’s a couple of times a year. You know it will be done properly with no guessing diagnostics. That alone may make for a more reliable car, for the sake of annual service and MOTs,........?

I wouldn't have a problem with that tbh going to Mikey.

I do find I struggle to fit things in as I work a lot but tbh with what he has posted here I feel very at ease using him.

Maybe that is the next step.

PS Thanks Mikey for that answer, I know its a difficult one to really say to on a forum

Today when I spoke with them they kinda said "so we don't think you asked about an MOT failure cover therefor its not covered as its not under warranty which you asked about......so Ive asked for call recordings as a start, as I think I paid for a warranty, and even though its included they are suggesting it is not items "under warranty" which is bonkers as you don't get the MOT insurance policy for free, nor can you buy it separately and its in the ONLY booklet you can download......I've just suggested I'd ask them to keep my car into Jan until Ive spoken to LR or logged it at court for a small claims claim, as my contract was with them/LR when I bought the policy and hence I called them to ask was these items covered under my warranty.

In all honesty, not that I believe it will matter, I cant see me not suggesting the reason for the call is because its just failed an MOT is a reason to accept they, well I believe, will just say - its not our fault.

We will see where it goes......the saga continues...... all smug in my new plug!

Use Mikey. We all know and respect he’s a superb independent.

How is this for a tale of woe from an alternate manufacturer.

We were talking to one of our friends yesterday who bought a brand new AMG in March.
In the first 3 months it went back to the dealers 9 times.
It does all sorts of weird electrical things like throwing faults up continually - as fast as he cleared them others appeared. The best though is the entire dash going completely blank. No speedo, rev counter, anything.
He told them he was going to reject it if they couldnt fix it.

After those 3 months the dealer told him they could no longer spend any time on fixing his car without him paying for it. On a 3 month old car, with faults it had from day 1.

He consequently rejected it, but took them up on a replacement (re order of exact same car).

He picks his replacement up this week, over 6 months from the date it was rejected.
Now get this.
They first off want him to pay a bunch of money because Mercedes didnt provide the replacement for free to the dealer.
They wanted him to pay a difference in value too as the new car has gone up in value.
Also they want him to pay for the amount of miles he has put on the car, despite the delay being out of his control (he would have had a new car straight away if possible, and couldn't use his daily due to the faults)
They also have reset his PCP to start again (despite him paying for ~9 months of the old car) which is essentially them pocketing 9 payments.

I mention this purely to point out not all other dealers are great either, even the supposedly premier dealer in the country Too many toys, not enough time

Thanks for providing some balance.

LR aren’t perfect, but I’ve been on the receiving end of their “generosity” when things have gone wrong, they’ve been better than any other manufacturer I’ve dealt with. Each time I hear “I’ll go German next time”, like it’s some kind of panacea, it makes me wonder what some users are expecting. At least, with LR, the lines of communication are short and the answers, so far, have all been the right ones.

My friend's got an X5.
She had to take it back to dealer for a recall because it could catch fire.

She was naturally worried about using the car

They messed her round plenty.

When they serviced it they also forgot to reset the service indicator thingy.
Which then cause some other issue.

I think they're all (mostly) rubbish.

. Cheers, Greg

Whereas a colleague with an Audi, at around 18 months old, had a nightmare getting a mere replacement battery. They refused to even test the battery as we’d had a tracker fitted and automatically blamed that; it was up to us to provide them with the evidence that the battery was dead before they’d consider even inspecting it.

On top of that, the warranty ran out completely at around 2 years old as the 60,000 mile mark was passed and he’s at the mercy of the contract hire company for the last year of the agreement.
