After purchasing used - first things to check?

In case you haven’t seen my millions of posts, I’ve just picked up my 2012 L322 TDV8. Having just learnt (luckily not the hard way) that the oem scissor jacks are a death trap, it got me thinking. What other things should you do, buy or check when you first bring one home? Mines done over 100k miles so a gearbox oil change is near the top of my to do list.

Anything else? I’d prefer not too learn the hard way so any advice really welcomed Smile

Speaking of gearbox's, perhaps look at a 'mega flush' rather than an oil & filter change?
Some say yes some say no. The Indy I use reckons an ordinary oil & filter gearbox change only gets 60% +/- of the oil out, whereas a mega flush gets the whole lot.
2nd turbo drain mod
oil cooler oil leak
both these on the forum in various places
There will be other recommendations from others who have far more experience than I.
But, most importantly & must never ever be missed is to.................enjoy wafting in total luxury Laughing 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

I have just put up a post for a bargain Sprinter jack.
Worth you trying to get one, because they are brilliant for lifting L322’s, wheel changing etc.

A Trap

Check credit rating and savings.. although you probably should have done this before purchasing a ff.

Next take up that bed in the nearest mental hospital

Really, just drive for a bit, get used to it... problems and improvements will come to light then service the hell out of it to set a good known level of service.

Have the 4 boost hoses been upgraded to the silicon hoses? Easy to check, just lift off the engine cover and look at the 'donut' on top of the engine. The 4 small length hoses are easy to spot, the originals split and give you the 'restricted performance' error. If not done, it's a simple and cheap fix, but will improve your car's performance and your peace of mind. Done mine and what a difference!! Thumbs Up
Check the thread on 'Restricted Performance' on this forum Bow down , it'll give you all the information you need. Thumbs Up

One other thing to check......swollen nuts!! Shocked Shocked
Talking about the wheel nuts, just replaced mine on a 2012 Westminster, some of them were in a shocking state. Got a good set of stainless alloy replacements and they look so much better than the JLR standard ones that were on. Some of the wheel nuts were so bad that I had to hammer a 22mm Impact Socket on to the nut and use some serious brute force to get them off. New nuts look so much better as well. Thumbs Up

Good tip on the wheel nuts, where did you get your replacements from?

Thanks
