if the owner knows of this problem and has just done that process of driving it over 2500rpm then you wont get no smoke.. ... - .- -.

How much steady driving do you need to do to build up more oil again?

Stan you know stuff, is it the case that its just smoke rather than a serious problem? Geoff

the first part of your sentence is debatable Geoff.. Laughing

the smoke is an indicator that there is an oil leak and thats not an ideal situation..i'm sure experts, GGDR and Baltic Blue will advise more concisely.. ... - .- -.

but as far as I can see its not in anyway fixing the leak but fixing the symptoms of the leak (smoke) Geoff

Geoff,
Despite Stan’s very kind expert comment which I deny Rolling with laughter , I don’t think their is a “leak” as such, more a case of its normal oil lubrication building up in the turbo because the original drain pipe is badly designed, therefore the only way the oil can get out is via the exhaust.
From then it is all down to driving style.
If you are happy to get the revs up regularly , then because the build up is slow, you will soon clear it without possibly even noticing the smoke, but if like me you prefer to drive a bit more sedately , rarely getting to 2500 rpm, then over time the build up gets quite significant, thus when you do floor it you produce a real fog behind you.
Hope that helps explain.
Cheers

Thumbs Up now I understand - now I am not worrying, well not worrying too much I'll still look in the mirror when overtaking (best time to paddle up the revs). I normally drive quietly as well but increasing revs occasionally doesn't have to mean increasing speed. Geoff

The biggest benefit I found after getting the mod done was being able to enjoy the 4.4’s infinite torque at very low revs, therefore cruising mile after mile at 70-75 mph and still only doing c1400rpm., but nearly instant takeoff when you do floor it for any reason.

Thought I'd look under the n/s wheel looking just over the shaft to see if I had the mod already done........inspection light, mirror, could I find it, could I heck! I tried looking in front of the n/s wheel then behind the n/s wheel. There are two shiny LR pipes running together parallel but I'm guessing these are a/c, I don't seem to locate the longitude pipes......any clues for a dimwit?

Need to look behind the 2 horizontal AC pipes to see if it’s been done. Not easy by all accounts Whistle

What a female dog of a job to see! Being slightly aged, rather rotund & not particularly athletic, I struggle to get under the car even with 'off road' height. Did however find the tube that drops down from the turbo.......and the rubber pipe that I assume goes to the sump........but blow me, I just cannot see the middle bit whichever way I look. Maybe a trip to the Indy & let some younger, more athletic chappy grovel underneath for me.
I'm having my doubts it's been done.......however, if, & it's a big if, if she hasn't had the mod done is it a necessary mod that has to be done. I do rather pootle around at minimum revs but next time I'm out I'll rev at 3k & see what comes out of the back.

My 2012 never smoked.Had it serviced at 129k kms and now it is smoking!!What can cause this to start happening on a engine that did not smoke....different oil?Car was serviced by same LR dealer as before.Think they use Castrol.Since lockdown the car was hardly driven but I now see that smokescreen when booting it.Only done 3k kms since service.

Must say I am not happy as this is not a cheap fix in our part of the world.

Any thoughts? 2012 TDV8 Vogue SE 4.4

Does it do it every time?

Have you started the car repeatedly without really going anywhere in it. This used to cause mine to smoke, but only a couple of times then it was cleared and back to normal service! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Make sure they’ve not overfilled it with oil, if so that can cause it to smoke, and needs taking back to the correct level quickly if they have.

ouch, I nearly bought a 2011 TDV8 tonight with the round Jaguar knob that goes up and down ( swish ) , and it was full dealer history and I said I would like to go up one junction on the M11 and boot it, the seller was flabbergasted when the motorway was almost filled with his smoke as I got up to 3500 rpm, he didn't think it was very funny when I offered him £1000 less for the car - the hunt goes on for a nice 11 or 12 plate TDV8 L322 - I have two more to see at the weekend, both under 10 grand, and it will sure be fun booting these grand dames Smile
