SRS Light on again

Well , one of the worst jobs I have ever done on the vehicle was removing the entire centre console to gain access to the SRS Airbag ECU mounted under the back of the console near the rear passenger heater vents. Cut my hands to shreds but did find over £12 , £11 in old pound coins that can no longer be used. Anyway , yesterday uncoupled the Ctek battery charger to move the car and after washing the car the dreaded airbag light staying lit ! Got the gap diagnostics on it and the SRS ECU has failed ! Hey ho , new second hand unit purchased of Ebay and now having to do the whole thing again Sad Only done 300 miles since the last MOT last December !

Awaiting delivery of the SRS module , so , seeing as we have had a couple of dry days decided to the the battery disconnect and check terminal and crimp connections. Nothing obvious so reconnected and ensured all connections nice and tight. Started the vehicle up and reset everything plus cleared all faults with the GAP unit and all happy Smile Will keep the spare SRS ECU as a spare as they wont be available forever Wink

Literally just finished removing the airbag ECU from my 2012 due to it being locked out after two airbag deployments from a minor front end accident.

This helped a lot

Once you have the centre console open, no need to remove the gear selector or terrain control connectors, you remove the duct tube which pulls out from the back. Next three nuts holding emergency handbrake release, again no need to remove. Finally 4 10mm nuts holding the ECU, remove the two connectors and job done.

I am planning to send the ECU to the Airbag Team to unlock it, but out of interested can a ECU from another L322 be fitted with the GapIID tool.

I posted recently about the trouble I had getting mine through the last MOT, the airbag warning light came on whilst in the garage getting some work done. They are paying to sort it out and mentioned having to dismantle the centre console and what a pain it is, must say I’ve done it a couple of times and didn’t find it too difficult. Do you mind if I ask how much the srs ecu ?

The price depends where you buy it:

1. New genuine through a LR dealer maybe £800 - £1000!
2. EBay or breakers yard maybe £50-100. But how do you know if it’s not locked?
3. Airbag Team £75 to unlock yours.

I am going to try option 3.

I’m glad it’s the garage who will pick up the bill, if they weren’t then I’d go with option 3 too. Thanks for the advice well worth knowing.

Personally I'd go with a new module - they are 'locked' not just to preserve telematics but also as the pyrotechnic trigger circuits are built to be a 'one shot' guaranteed output, they are not designed for a second use.
The insurance co's. know this and are used to paying for the module to be replaced, thereby guaranteeing it's performance - should it be needed. It's also likely to be one of the things you should inform your insurers about.
