pattern vs OE parts - opinions please

Hi,
Does anyone have any views about Bearmach parts.

I've not heard of them before. They seem to be similar price to Britpart.

Both are significantly cheaper than OE LR parts.

FWIW my general attitude to pattern parts is to consider the cost of doing the job twice.

With a LR part, you're kind of assured a level of quality - so if the labour is significantly more, then you may as well use the best possible part.

I'm happy to use Bosch rather than LR wiper blades, but would buy a genuine head gasket......

Assuming you are thinking belts and pulleys.
You know JLR genuine are good for c100k miles.
If you intend keeping the car for a few years, then you know you can say they won’t need touching again if you go genuine.

Yes Mike, thinking belts, pulleys, filters etc.

I do share the concern that I have no idea exactly where these other parts are made.
A bit like buying a bosch wiper blade, Buying something like a Mann filter where its a known brand is low risk (to me) as the quality is known.

I've never heard of this maker / brand though, hence asking if anyone else knew anything about them.

I was hoping someone was going to say they are the same parts from the same manufacturers but in an unbranded box Wink

I think I will just buy the known brands.

Bearmach are pretty well known - do a search on here and there are lots of opinions including those of professionals.

I tend to trust Advanced Factors. If they stock it, it usually means it's decent quality. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

John, my view on Genuine parts is to buy what you can afford!

I personally ALWAYS use genuine parts and for a simple reason... When you buy any JLR parts, get the parts dealer put your VIN or reg no on the receipt. Keep your receipt and if that part fails in the next year, call your local main dealer and they will change them for free including labour!

Genuine parts are made to JLR's exacting standards! To fit a JLR battery for example you are assured that battery is made to a very tight tolerance! Say for example that battery was produced by Varta? If you buy a much cheaper Varta branded battery for the same car, it won't be made to the same exact standard as it would be too expensive/not competitively priced, low enough to sell in any numbers!

Jurid brake pads for example, will have a cheaper recipe when producing them compared to JLR branded pads (and usually have the corners missing so you get less for your money too!!!)

Its all these things that need taking into consideration... Thumbs Up

Craig, thanks too, some interesting things there I didn't know.
So if I fit genuine parts the labour to replace them if they fail is included ?
Never heard of that before. I will be sure to get my reg recorded on the receipt now Thumbs Up

I also assumed the likes of Brembo pads are the same, whether LR branded or Brembo packaged.

I was looking at buying ribbed belt, idler pulleys and tensioner.
Choices seem to be unbranded, bearmach, britpart or LR OE.
I've bought LR OE this time.

I can afford to buy LR OE, but cheaper parts means more money for more toys / beer Mr. Green Too many toys, not enough time

We have both Britpart and Bearmach accounts

We spend £500 a month with Bearmach and nearly £10k a month with Britpart.
If you don't go for the cheapest option of parts, and stick with OEM, you won't go far wrong Thumbs Up

In Australia
The part has to be fitted by a LR Dealership for that to apply !

2010 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Alaska White

theres all sorts of scams go on in replacement parts.

I had moog ball joints fitted recently and one started clonking after 2 weeks. got another brand (cant remember what it was now but definately NOT moog) but it was obviously from the same production line because it bore the same casting imperfections though the clips holding the boot on were different!

getting new lower rear wishbones fitted tomorrow which were supplied as NON OE about £70 each delivered. they look quite complex to tool up to make and wonder if the after market for L322 lower rear wishbones is large enough for anyone to tool up to make these, particularly given the retail vat inclusive price?

No sir, its something JLR have done for years... We often have batteries fail for example and as many of our customers are spread out all over the UK, they simply take their car to their local main agent, the main agent contacts us for the purchase/sales receipt then changes the customers battery for free (including labour)...

The secret is to ask your JLR parts supplier to put either your reg or VIN on the receipt. This they usually expect as a minimum to prove you purchased the part for that car... Not your brothers etc etc!

Had the same Moog part issue. I didn't realize Moog makes an economy line now and that is what I ordered. Never wore out the better line of Moog parts.

I always stick with jlr parts except in one place - when the one parts are the same manufacture and 1/3 of the cost... the denso alternaterwas around 600 dealer and 200 own (both denso) same with my Bosch super charge colling pump Current stable:

Don't forget though Dan, if Denso (for example) make a part for JLR then it has to meet their standard! If Denso then make a much cheaper part under their own brand name, there may well be some corners cut? Im not saying its a rule of thumb! But well worth thinking about when ordering!

Jurid pads from JLR are several MM's thicker and Jurid "own brand" brake pads for the same model AND... They have chamfered edges! This reduces the material by a good 20 - 25%! Shocked Does this mean they are worth 50% of the cost??? Only you can make that assumption sir Thumbs Up
