Hi all..

So as you may have seen since getting my beast I have been fire fighting issue after issue and it appeared there was a light at the end of the tunnel - the interior lights need sorting and the engine had a very very slight rough idle.

First problem aside the plan was to get it converted it lpg.

Before converting the fitter wanted to make sure it was running pukka on petrol. So I changed the filter ran some injector cleaner through new Maf smoke tested and replaced some hoses. Although marginally better the combine short term fuel trims for each bank were still 20+ and nothing was leaking anywhere out with smoke after testing again.

Then had the computer on there and the live misfire counter was occasionally chucking one or two random cylinders in (most went in)

Anyway today did a leak down test and the found 2 cylinders with 150psi and 6 with 120psi... and here’s the kicker... they are now reckoning it has vsr - something which looking on here is considered a gas only problem!

Has anyone had any experiences like this and what kind of costs have you looked at to have it done - lowest I’ve been quoted so far is £2500 +vat with new chain and guides while it’s all open  Current stable:

Out of interest, what is VSR?

im currently doing the head gaskets on our 07 SC, was quoted roughly 5-6K for the job.....

im only 4 months in.....

but im almost ready to remove heads, i took the old gas system off as it was a poor install.

valve seat regression - its since ford took over the engines apparently and used much softer metal for the valve seats compared to the Bmw counterparts.

As mentioned his can happen on petrol but is accelerated with lag especially if the the lag has no oiling system.

Is t too late to run a compression test? if you have to get the heads off anyway its seems a no brainer to take them to a shop and get them to regrind the seats - you'll be kicking yourself if in 20k you're doing the job again... Current stable:

I remember reading somewhere that JE Engineering replace the valve seats with hardened ones so that you can run LPG without any issues.

yes I read that too but I've also read if you have a good clean base car ad its set up right there are people on here with 70k plus on lpg no issues Current stable:

apparently if you remove the oil cap while idle running the engine should die if its working correctly - mine doesn't seem to - it would be good for someone with well running one to try and hear if this is indeed the case! Current stable:

Why would it stop? Previous cars:
S-Max 2007-2013 (only diesel I've had, good car but expensive when diesely bits go wrong, so what's the point?)
