My side steps need replacing, they are rusty, lumpy and one is cracked. I'm going to replace with the same ones.
Does anyone know whether the aftermarkets (£210) are comparable to the OEM LR Genuine (£900) ones?
I note the sellers use the same photos for aftermarket and OEM...

Where do they rust/crack out of interest? I have them on mine so would like to check if mine are ok. Cheers

my left one (not shown) has a crack in the trim where the previous owner touched something.
They rust underneath, which has spread to the top under the rubber so the rubber is bumpy. It is cosmetic, not structural, on my ones.

theres a good chance that the chinese copies will be he same as LR genuine...
if when you buy the replacement steps they dont fit the OE mounts then just replace the old mounts with the chinese ones.. ... - .- -.

I bought mine from Direct 4X4 (Derby) in 2015 @ about £250, came with all fixings and front mud flaps.
They fitted perfectly ok, the only changes I made were :-

1/ Coated the metal frames with underseal prior to fixing.
2/ Replaced all fixing bolts with stainless steel equivalents and pushed some copper grease into the chassis tapped holes.

I put brand new aftermarket ones on mine 18 months, ago, last month drivers side dropped and upon investigation found the brackets that have keyhole shaped holes had corroded away completely hence leaving nothing to attach too, I had black waxoyled mine on day on of fitting too!
Total junk,, crappily made, I removed them with no regrets, car looks infinatly nicer without, I may fit deployable ones in time. 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.

I used to be indecisive and have a split personality... but we are ok now...I think?

My genuine ones rusted away so badly that they collapsed causing an injury, so I wouldn't put too much store in them.

I think they were only a couple of years old at the time, looking at the receipts.

I'm very surprised to hear of your bad experiences , miine are still ok (touch wood), and still look the same.
They get used on a regular basis, 4 years on and still going strong.

My 2007 VSE passenger fixed side step snapped due to rust , i believe they were 7 years old at the time. On removing both steps to replace , lots of rust was found in them. 2015 4.4 AB

Its just a 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE spec' one, since that picture I have added rear light guards and new side vents from Powerful UK, also a "farmers towing plate" to the Westphalia unit, not to tow anything but to act as a visual "Don't tailgate me" deterrent which doesn't seem to work .

Good luck with the install, I fitted mine myself, bit of a struggle but can be done. Remember to put blocks or axle stands
under the car before starting, I didn't, I forgot to do it as I was so excited with the new car, I had a lucky escape, especially after subsequently reading about the suspension doing its own thing.

As per Strider's recommendation I ordered side steps from Direct4x4 as they looked exactly what I wanted.
My old ones are Land Rover OEM Parts - the new steps are identical - weight, steel gauge, welds, panels cuts, stamps. Identical (Stan was spot on as usual!!).
Worth noting the new mudflaps are not as good as Land Rover Originals, the new ones are plasticcy and less flexible, originals are rubbery and just feel better quality. To clarify the new ones are ok but OEM are better.

I put copies on when those on my TD6 rusted through. I left the OE mudflaps on though, managed to get copy step to fit up to them ok.

I recon the ones on my 2011 will give way at some point....

Wow. Wasn't expecting this level of degradation - this is a bracket for the mudflap on the other side. My chassis and internal RR structure is pristine but if you've got sidesteps this is worth investigating.
