Another forum member mentioned the osram night breaker

Is this to replace the standard headlight bulbs which are 300 LUMIN?

The D3S bulb is what you need for the '17 RR, plug and play replacement and won't adversely affect the adaptive function. Can't definitely say if its worth the money, but anything that improves the headlights dismal high beam performance is a benefit.

They say 200% brighter but this is compared to minimum legal requirement.

Existing bulbs are 300 LUMEN but I could find a LUMEN rating for these which would probably resolve the issue. [found a site which suggests they are approx 3200 lumen so not massively brighter....]

I agree the marketing of being 200% brighter is a little vague (as always with this type of claim) as the only absolute reference is to the minimum allowed by the ECE R98 standard. Interestingly, all the lamps in the Osram range are quoted as having the same Luminous flux (3200 lumens) although the colour temperature differs and this can make a difference to the perceived brightness.
Confusingly the R98 standard refers to candelas (cd) for brightness - it makes for very dry reading, if you have trouble sleeping it is here

ECE R99 and ECE R48 (and others) also apply to vehicle light sources. 2800 lumen output is referred to in R99.

The idea of replacing one bulb with the new type and one with the standard to compare sounds like a plan to test. But tbh by the time u’ve replaces one might as well do both if ur going to do it. --
