TDV8 turbo intake pipe loose

I replaced the air intake pipe the other day as there was a hole in it the size of my little finger just near the U bend.

I noticed when I pulled the convoluted section off the hard plastic pipe to the turbo, I could move this pipe around like it was loose. I could also see what I thought was a plastic seam opening and closing.

How do they connect to the turbo and should there be movement? 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

I applied some vaseline to mine to improve the seal. It was snug though already. The rubber flange seemed to grip well. Otherwise it would drag in a load of dirty air or water... __

No. I did a smoke test and no leaks after I'd rebuild and refitted the engine.

The rubber seal will shrink though so best replace if it's not snug on yours. __

So if that’s happened to mine would you say it would cause a fault? 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

That's highly likely to be your inlet manifold.

I'd guess at the second pot in from the front on the right hand side (looking from drivers seat)

You can see it normally on the engine cover foam. Pull that off and examine, it should give you a clue to the location.

Failing that, have you still got EGR valves? __

I had a smoke test done last week and the inlet manifold was fine.

The EGRs have been blanked off and digitally removed 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

How hot was the engine when you had your smoke test?
I only ask because a smoke test on my warm engine didn't show anything up but it did show bubbles when it was hot.

It was up to temperature as I’d driven to the garage just before the smoke test. The only leak was the hole in the air tube which I’ve replaced. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Mine would not show unless it was operating temperature and after a run.

I wonder if your big leak in that pipe meant smoke didn’t build up thru the whole system?

You could try washing up liquid in water sprayed over the plastic manifold.

I’m not sure the error message would show because of a leak on the intake pipe as it’s not pressured there. __

I think this car came with a multitude of problems which is why the previous owner sold it. He knew exactly what he was doing when he sold it to me.
I should’ve sold it when I bought it but I’m too honest with people. I’d be declaring all the faults because that’s the way I am.

Despite its faults I’ve grown to really like the car so I’ll persevere with it. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded
