Well I've educated myself with the incredible insight from Greg & Mike over a couple of highly detailed threads, it's amazing what determination and not accepting "they all do that sir" attitude. Been putting off on an IID for years to be honest. At least the car has a full warranty covering the dpf system. Sincere thanks to you both. Seems as though the cars want to do a burn per full / empty tank cycle. Waiting on some huge invoices coming in then IID tool order will be placed

I don't think the iiD tool is sorted yet for the 17MY unfortunately. Possibly couldn't trust myself with one anyway. Bound to screw it completely.

Thanks  Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

Hello Everyone, my first post.
Yesterday I had the amber DPF and soon after the red.
The car (2012 4.4 TDV8) went into limb mode.
While I got the amber DPF I was driving spirited to test the CSOV that I removed earlier that day to clean and grease the valve linkage after a P2263 error last week ( I have the updated valve stem without the nut)
There was a little bit of oil on the bottom of the CSOV, no more than a couple of drops.
I drove home in limb mode and went online to read what the @#%$ happened and found a lot of info here on fullfatrr (that's why I signed up today)
This morning I connected my old OBDII reader (ODBLink with ScanXL software) to check the codes and it only showed one pending code P2463 - DPF Restriction / Soot Accumulation and I cleared it.
Started the car, no error messages and drove away and within seconds it showed the amber DPF.
After about 10 minutes of highway driving at steady 120km/h the amber DPF went away.
I drove another 30 minutes and everything seems ok now.

Is everything really ok?
Is there a way to get values of the differential pressure or is that converted into soot levels in gram by the scan tools?
Is there a way to see how good/bad my DPF is at the moment?

And... what about the type of fuel?
Does that play a role at all?
I've been using the Aral (BP) Ultimate Diesel since I've owned the car, I bought the car a year ago with 115000km, now at 130000.

Most of us use Gap iid readers which show live values for DPF soot Mass.
Anything in single figures is good.
As soon as the mass reaches 17.5g start planning to go for a 20/30 minute run at 50mph+.
If you don’t, the mass figure will continue to rise until at 23.5g the Amber warning will trigger.

Well Herr SpitfireS, I think you've just found tool that will remove a RED DPF warning!

Only thing I'd add which Mike has summarised very well is that you should check your soot level - which the lack of Amber suggests is fine. Should be 3-5g maybe less after a successful regen.

The IIDTool does not have this feature which is a shame and if a few of us lobby GAP maybe they will reconsider. I've asked Pat and he said they considered it but decided not to add. Maybe from a liability POV they are worried people may clear the warning but not actually go immediately on a Regen run which you did do Spitfire.

I imagine somebody could easily FUBAR their DPF and maybe more if they cleared a RED and didn't regen immediately.

The OBDLink I have is 8 years old, bought from Scantool.net

I was surpriced this morning to see they offer a firmware update for it, installed it, it still works.

Looks like they still sell it, they also had updates for it.

I did not start the car before I connected the OBDII and 'cleared' the red warning so I don't know if the red warning was still there, IOW did I really clear it?
Maybe it did not set as I just before worked on the CSOV?
Maybe it was a false error?
Or is the P2463 the Red Warning?

Oh well... I'll see tomorrow morning if everything is still ok.
My morning commute is just under 20km and only the middle bit, around 10km, is Autobahn
Until now that was enough to never show any DPF warning.

Any thoughts on the fuel?

BP Ultimate is obviously good fuel with cleaning agents included but it would not be as powerful as specialist additive.

I've read good things about this product:

But there are loads of alternatives. I think worth dropping one in the tank and seeing how things go.
