Yeh joe I was thinking along those lines but why would changing plugs etc make her run better.been working on her this afternoon.cleaned maff got missfire on num 1 and 2 took plugs out put new ones in .However before taking them out I squeezed a little sponge on a stick down the plughole of num 2 and what looked like anti freeze water came out so suspect valley pan gasket.got a tin of k seal and stuck it in fingers crossed.everthing dry now. However I noticed the studs holding num 2 were coming out of the cover and nuts holding earth wires were not tight .Gave studs a little knock and managed to get a grip so they are tight now .Gave her a run and no sign of misfire yet .My confidence is pretty low but time will tell.i will send away for a camshaft sensor just in case.are they interchangeable?

Any tips on fitting new cam shaft sensor?

when you cleared faults, what faults came back on diagnostics , just misfire 1 and 2 ?
When you say plug hole do you mean next to the spark plug or with the spark plug removed?
your valley pan is not going to put coolant into your spark plug bore that i can see.

Cheers holiday that would be a relief if it's not valley .looking at the state of the sensors in pics I think I will give mine a clean see if it helps multiple persistent misfires cly 1 /2 cam shaft timing over advanced although this goes away when coils changed or plugs .She was running well last night will see what happens in the morning.not getting a lot of sleep at the moment with the pain etc hence early morning message.thanks again Richard

Check if it is the same colour as your oil from inside the filler cap, also check the crankshaft sensor.
Has anyone been in and changed timing chain guides or vanos units ?
i think the cam shaft sensors are the same both sides, not sure on the length of cable but if they are try swapping to opposite bank.
Your vanos solenoids could also be faulty so again you could swap them to the opposite side after trying the sensors, you will need a special socket for the vanos solenoids
you don't want any oil in the spark plug bores
read rave manual description and operation of the cam timing, i can post it later if you can't find it but it will help you understand what alters the cam timing
i think there is a different cam timing when cold but rave will tell you

Hi cleaned camshaft sensors {they were pretty mucky}fired her up and she ran perfect no rattles on start up firing all cylinders.vanos never been disturbed by me at least .Going to Greenock today so that will test her fingers crossed,☺️

Ok whatever I did it seems to have worked not a blip from her running better than ever super quite and responsive happy again.at the moment anyway!!

Once you have replaced all the parts one at a time it will be time to start back at the beginning
