Interesting fbh discovery today. Nrrows down the problem???

Ok interesting discovery today

So the fuel burning heater comes on and works with the engine running. I have read that this is to help the engine warm faster and reduce wear.

I physically felt very warm air coming from it’s exhaust when the engine was running so the fuel burning heater does work and so must the glow plug etc. Otherwise it wouldn’t be able to fire up with a cold engine.

So it stands to reason that either the module or a temp sensor is stopping the parked heating working?? Regards

It won’t run if the battery is even a little bit low. With engine running, alternator will provide plenty of power. That sounds like the most likely reason to me. Current: 2010 Range Rover L322

Fully charged, with no load, should be 12.7v. That will quickly reduce, though, with any sort of load so hard to test and get a reliable value without disconnecting the battery from the car.

I would connect a battery charger overnight and the try FBH in the morning with battery charger still connected. FBH should run for at least 20 mins.

If this works, you need to look into the battery and charging circuit. If battery is original, it may well need replacing. Alternator charging voltage isn’t straightforward on these vehicles. It should get to about 14.4v (possibly a bit more for an AGM battery) but the charge controller stops alternator providing full output until the engine has been running for a few mintes, I think because the engine is more efficient and so emits fewer emissions once warm.

Also bear in mind that you need a fairly chilly morning for the FBH to fire up at all. Current: 2010 Range Rover L322

Thanks for this bud.

I think I will go to my local car parts shop tomorrow. They have a battery tester which will say if it’s good or bad.

One question as I was looking earlier. How on earth do you replace the battery??

I know how to do it but can’t see how you get it in or out lol. There seems to be something in front like a big metal fin thing

Quick and easy up to MY2010. 2011-12, slightly more involved. Always awkward - they are big, heavy batteries.

Article here gives details, with pictures.
