Would have thought that upper tailgate is correct when flush with rear opening on both sides and latching without undue pressure? Previously a 2008MY Tonga Green Vogue SE 3.6 TDV8 |

Just trial and error I believe. Unless my stoppers are a good few turns out from the body work I get a really woolly close. Just give them a half turn on either side and close, check the gaps from the tailgate to the rear quarters, and assuming it's stopped smacking the lower tailgate you're done, if not, go again |

I'm not sure if it's case by case, because mine still latches fine when the bolts are nearly out, but you can tell that it's not quite in line, and the noise on closing is a bit tinny. Bearing in mind your issue, I'd just keep going out in quarter turns until you're just out of line, then go back in a bit. You won't have problems latching, but should minimise the marking on the lower tailgate |
