Hi guys started experiencing the cattle grid shudder only at 50 to 55MPH and only when taking foot off accelerator at 50MPH then easing it back on slowly do I feel the shudder I do not get the shudder if I give it heavier acceleration from 50MPH. I have had tyres checked twice for balancing and they are fine. I had my gearbox and torque convertor done at 127000 and I'm on 156000 at the minute so surely not the torque convertor at fault or is kit! Any ideas.

Could possibly be a sticking brake or brake calliper, was on mine. Have you checked the wheels for heat after a run?

Hi I had a sticking break calliper last year which caused smoking and a full on wobble steering due to the heat warping the disc at anything over 30MPH. I don't seem to think to could be a calliper problem as this problem only occurs at 50 to 55 MPH and there a lot of people saying online that it points to the Torque Convertor but I will deffo have all the callipers checked to rule iyt out.

It could well be the torque converter but brake callipers are a lot cheaper.

Way back i used to have a Ford Granada 2.8i Ghia estate and had a similar type of vibration. It turned out to be a split in the propshaft 'spider' joint where the rubber joint had split between the bolts.

Probably the torque converter, had mine done a few months ago with exactly the same symptom.

Also had a slight variation between the engine revs increasing around 200rpm and then dropping 200rpm with no gear change at around 40mph, turned out it was an issue with the lock up clutch in the torque converter ...

Converter changed all went away

As Nicedayforit says you can quickly check for sticking caliper slide pin by the temperature at the wheel. The sticking one will be much hotter. John

Hi Still not resolved this issue had front breaks checked again even changed pads had callipers cleaned up etc...I have changed one injector which was number 6 giving an abnormal read no difference though. What is strange is that when engine is cold I do not get the shudder at 55MPH at slight acceleration. I also get shudder when I'm giving it a bit of revs in reverse.I am going to change Injector 1 as this is giving off strange reads to see if this cures it. Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 SVO Stying Pack

Watching this with interest, as I have the same issue albeit at slightly higher speed (65-70). Next step for me was also to have the callipers checked, but I'm going to mention the T/C and the prop joint for them to look at.

Hi Cappo do you also get a slight feathering in RPM at about 1500 to 2000 and a vibration shuddering when you reverse only when applying acceleration in reverse though. My gear changes are smooth no slipping and no hesitation up hills etc and the car has no loss of power. UPDATE this has been sorted finally it turned out to be a faulty injector Cylinder 1 so no more shudders in reverse or at 55MPH. But I still have a slight feather on my RPM Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 SVO Stying Pack

Hi,

I had that last week. I finally lost all drive. The transmission oil filter was clogged. New 6l of oil and one filter fixed it. However, if there is enough crap to block the filter, it is likely the clutches are on their way out so the oil change is likely to be a short term fix.
