replacing the 2010-2012 head unit

i wonder if its possible to replace the antiquated 2010-2012 head unit with an android one and still retain the 4x4 and setting menus and of course the steering wheel controls...

any ideas?

I have searched many times, but never found such a thing, but I am sure they would sell like hot cakes if some clever entrepreneurs were to produce one at a reasonable price.

Who makes the earlier model retrofits ?
Maybe we should send them a “group” letter ?

I think all those functions are too proprietary to make it viable Stan.

I’d certainly jump if someone could retain ALL functionality in a more modern package. Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

But does it still display 4x4 info, like steering wheel position, car height etc etc?

No mention of those.... Whistle Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Probably way too small market. The early BMW-models use the same headunit as a whole generation of BMWs (E38, E39, E46, E53 etc.), while the latest L322s are pretty much alone? A few jags maybe? 2007 L322 3.6 TDV8 Stornoway

Probably not relevant, but on my Disco 4, I moved the original head unit to the glove box so I kept the clock and radio and BT, but then fitted a tablet in the dash.

Connected via aux cable for music and sat nav, phone still cuts it off when a call comes in, and have everything an android tablet has to offer. Also have TV app (perfect for the wife) and internet radio app too (has to be tethered to a wifi hot spot from my phone for those functions).

Looks factory too, with the LR bezel.

Take a look at this:

There is company in Russia (BGT Workshop http://www.bgtworkshop.ru ) which install some sort of Android Auto to the existing head unit, so apparently, all the oem menus are kept and you have the option of changing to the Android Auto menu at any time. I have sent them an inquiry regarding their products and the possibility of sending them to EU about two weeks ago, but I have not had any reply so far.

This upgrade seems the best option in my opinion, since you apparently not only keep the look of the oem unit, but also the menus. On their Instagram site they have posted four videos of this install.

I will try to contact them again to see if I can get some information. The price seems to be starting at 60.000 Rubel, which is around 850 Euros. If anyone who reads this speaks Russian, it would be very much appreciated if you help us out contacting this company.

Thumbs Up Instagram @l322passion

Group buy? Most of the site refers to installation, so that price might include fitting? Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Yes, I am in! If this really is as good as the videos show it, it is pretty much the best update around.

On Youtube there is a video of an American company which supply a module for Android Auto update BUT for the 2007 MY L322. I guess that is no good for our nav unit?

but... requires a smartphone for it to work - all that is happening is the phone screen is being mirrored to the FFRR screen, everything "happens" on the phone .
