The thing is 2 or 3 parts, the ball joint which is in a cassette held in by the 2 torx bolts shown in that pic, the arm which comes with the big bush pressed in and you can buy the big bush separately.

Ball joint

if the bolts that secure the strut to the hub are turning ok (mine were siezed solid) then i reckon removing the hub is the best way to replec the thr bottom ball joint.

i bought a used hub off ebay for £30 to practise on since i didnt want the car in bits on drive whilst i figured out how to do it. it's easy to get the torx bolts out with the hub on the bench as the Cv joint is not in the way. they came out with an impact driver but of course you can use heat or even take it to someone else for them to do it. you will not lose the battle with those bolts if you have the hub on the bench!

next, you just use a chisel or drift to bash the ball joint out. again, you will win this contest easily as you can hit the ball joint direct without the cv in the way.

i dont recommend moog brand ball joints

The arm described as the lower has the ball-joint fitted and its taper fits into the hub. The rear-wards one with the larger replaceable bush is the upper, and as shown in the earlier pictures its ball-joint taper fits into the arm, not the hub and its ball-joint is a separately purchased part.

you will need the arm off to change the bush which you can get from ebay. not worth the hasle IMHO - just replace the whole arm.

get one of these to release the ball joint.

if you use a forky type of tool for splitting the ball joint taper you will furk the ball joint and it's boot but if you use this tool with a piece of aluminium on the top of the ball joint stud (to prevent the tool damaging the ball stud's thread) it will be re-useable.

i believe that the OEM arms were made by Lemforder?

Easy to do wih a press and the right kit, if you dont have that stuff the saving made on the cost of the arms could cover the cost of some equipment, if not buy the arm with the bush in. Ball joint a pain to split as can't get a splitter in easily when in situe. A bit of hammmering and a wiggle of the wheel should help release it though. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Oem arms are Lemforder but Delphi will do fine.

Don’t bother with just the bush, as said the arm will have to come off to swap it anyway. The bush used to ba available separately, I had one as a paperweight on my desk and never fitted it. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

As I stated earlier, I R&R'd my 2nd side bush with a bush removal & refitting kit that was already on hand but the 10T press for the 1st side bush was much easier.

Interestingly it's called the upper arm on the Advanced Factors diagram:

I'm also now seeing the ball joint facing down on that diagram.

For some reason I thought it was facing up and into the hub assembly.

So if I can get these two bolts off (and the bush end bolt) the arm will come away with the ball joint (still together) then I can discard both and I can replace both with new?

Meaning there is no taper to break, only the two rusty bolts?
