Oil leak

Noticed some driveway spots and a slight burning smell. Underneath the rear of the pan has some oil on it and the suspension cross bar (?)
Doesn’t use oil
Oil cooler or turbo pipe doesn’t look like it’s the issue..just checked it with pollen filter box off.
Never smokes out of the back when pushed
Off to Mark at Petersfield Garage Services in morning for a look-see with pan removed...
Any thoughts....?

First thing to check is oil cooler - the case can crack or the gasket can go.
Then you want to check the o-ring (search o-ring 4.4TDV8

Both of these are common and can send oil down the bell housing and ends up where you are describing.

Mine's neither.

To try to find it I've had UV dye in the oil and a good search but can't find the source. Still looking.

Doesn't really use oil either. Cheers, Greg

Thanks. Oil cooler and feed pipe look ok. Checked those earlier after removing pollen filter box.

Had similar with my TD6 - garage found small split in one of the diesel plastic fuel lines, and it was diesel dripping, not oil.

Keep an eye on your coolant tank for signs of oil?

i reckon its oil leaking from the oil cooler or turbo drain pipe and accumulating in the rear 'v' part of the engine..oil gets to much in there and drips down onto the exhaust and then the floor...

Left it with them. I couldn’t see anything around the cooler when I took the pollen filter box off last night but to be honest it’s not easy to see anything in there with the intake manifold on etc Whistle
Time to crack out the spare motor Thumbs Up

I have what I think is the same thing on a 2007 3.6TDV8. Oil on the bell housing left side and running down and along under left side of auto box.
I could see oil in the rear of the V between the cylinder banks but hard to get at, even to wipe up.
Where might it be coming from on a 3.6 TDV8? Its not much, just a thin film and a few drops underneath, nothing on drive. Not using oil as such and runs well.
Any thought appreciated.

Keep an eye on your steering oil level.

I recently had a leak on one of the banjo bolts on the steering column. Very unusual place for a leak, and took a while to find it.

I initially thought it was engine oil until the steering oil level dropped noticeably. 2007 3.6 TDV8

cheezels that's really interesting. I've put UV dye in my oil and still couldn't find anything with the UV torch.
But there oil down there, same as Dr.Rob...
So when you say maybe it's not engine oil you've got me sitting up straight!

Whereabouts are the banjo bolts please?

. Cheers, Greg

Banjo bolts opposite position two.

Oil has been known to leak from the seal above this, also.
