Does anyone know how easy it is to fit Adaptive headlights (the ones with the turn side lights so when you're turning at night there is a light that comes on at the side).

Not sure if Adaptive is the right name for them or not but I would really like that feature!

I have the standard facelift Xenon or Bi-Xenon headlights.


This is what I have currently.




I presume I need these ones with the corner lights?

i dont think its just changing the light units ..
i suspect theres some sensors somewhere that relate the steering angle to the adaptive part of the headlight and probably a new wiring loom as well..

Adaptive lights use an extra module (AFS module) that controls swivelling and height adjustment during braking and acceleration for both headlights. If there are 16 wires to each headlight connector then the wiring is fitted, which is what I expect, however the AFS module is not likely to be fitted so would need to be sourced. Thereafter the CCF would need to be changed to enable their use.
I don't currently know where the AFS module is located.

Edit. The AFS module could be behind the left front foot-well side panel.

Don’t know the answer to your query, but don’t just go by the look of the light units because I have the below, and I don’t have cornering lights. There are no bulbs in the corner bit.....

So, you have a 2012 and your headlamps are black inside... The grey internals found on the 2009> ALL have the cornering reflectors but those without AFS simply don't have LED's in the cornering lights...
The 2012 lamps only have cornering reflectors when your car has AFS, does that make sense?

And as said above, check your headlamp plug first, although i suspect JLR removed it from the loom in 2011 as they did with the D4

If looking to buy an AFS module then note that it must be from a MY10 or later vehicle as the HS canbus protocol changed for MY10.

Edit: The engine bay wiring harnesses don't differentiate between with and without AFS, only for the various engines and with and without active dampers. This combined with being so late in the model run makes me think that the wiring will exist.

I had a quick look just now and it does have the 16 pin plug and there seems to be a wire going to every pin in the plug.

Would it be as simple as getting this AFS Module you mention and changing the CCF? (Don't know what that means but I'm sure someone more clever than me will be able to do it!

Obviously I will need the headlights with the bulbs in too which mine don't have, or the gaps for the bulbs like someone else above said they had but no bulbs.

Next step if wanting the adaptive lights is to locate the AFS module connector to confirm that you can find it and that it has all necessary wires. The connector will exist because some of the wires that you found in the headlight connector come from the AFS module connector.
The AFS module connector has at least 17 cavities but only 6 wires using 7 cavities, 1 being the shield from 1 wire.

Non-adaptive lights fitted with with non-functioning cornering (static bending) lights, which are LEDs in these headlights, should only need to be enabled in the CCF if the LEDs and driver are fitted in the headlight assembly, as SBLs do not require the AFS module.

The comment was with regard to the earlier reference to lights apparently with cornering lights but not necessarily being adaptive.

Removing the left foot-well side panel firstly requires the tread-plate to be lifted, then the door rubber pulled away in the vicinity of the side panel then the side panel can be slid rearwards. Whilst I removed mine quite recently, I didn't take notice of what modules and connectors were behind the panel other than there were some, so can't confirm if the AFS module is located there. The location of the AFS module was an old suggestion for an earlier L322 found on another forum.

If you remove the panel and need more details then I can remove mine for comparison as mine has adaptive lights.
