You will need to remove the viscous fan and shroud to be able to get at it all and undo everything to remove / replace

I changed the egr thermostat on my td6 not so long ago just by removing the top engine cover.

How did you get to the bolt under the vacuum hose? Remove hose, and refit with a new hose clamp? Or some other way? |

You'll have to give me time to refresh my memory as to how I did it, didn't think at the time I would have to explain it.

What I did was to prise off the top clip on the vacuum hose and then pull the metal pipe out from the end of the rubber tube.

Just a point, on removing the egr thermostat you will loose some engine coolant. When the thermostat has been changed and the coolant topped up you will need to bleed the system using the black plastic screw on the top of the thermostat. |

EGR thermostat replaced today. The metal pipe refused to come out of the rubber vacuum hose despite some silicon lube and boiling water to soften it, so cut the rubber hose off and replaced with a new length of hose and two jubilee clips after replacing thermostat. Engine now seems to be running warmer - old thermostat was 'leaking' as I could blow through it when removed.
