OK so update - the code reader only reads the angle as I turn left - then there are weird numbers to the right - I'm guessing a faulty wire, any suggesions?

UPDATE.

Circuit diagram for reference.

I have checked the loom's continuity from Steering angle sensor terminal C0962-4 to ABS ECU terminal C0506-40 and there is continuity.

Although from SAS terminal C0862-3 to ABS ECU terminal C0506-24 there is no continuity.

I wanted to check if there was continuity to C0506-24, there is a splice X18836 into the Engine Control Module, I checked the loom's continuity from the ABS ECU C0506-24 to the ECM C0331-36 and there is continuity.

QUESTION - does the CANBUS communicate the steering angle????

There fore if I replace this wire will the SAS reset???

before this gets to complicated, have you done a battery reset and set the steering parameters?

Thanks Stan

Do you mean battery off and full lock each way?

If so yes- it won't reset.

As per earlier in the thread I get a good output on my diagnostic reading with the steering wheel to the left, as soon as the column goes past centre to the right I get an odd output - I think there is a break in the wire - see piccies please

Update. So before cutting into my loom I decided to double check continuity and it was there.

Have ordered a second hand SAS to see if I get a better signal. Will test it before swapping it over on the steering column.

When i replaced mine on a 203 i had to use iidtool Bt to advise the system that a new SAS was fitted, not sure if your carsoft reader has that function.

icarsoft read and clear faults only, have to take it somewhere that can program it.

Thanks both - did you have to code the SAS before it would reset the SAS?

Have replaced the steering angle sensor and am getting the same weird readings. which would lead me to believe that the issue is in the CAN BUS - any tips for fixing this??

As per my earlier post I realise I cannot simply splice in and run a singlar wire to replace it

Yes the steering angle sensor information is transmitted along the CAN bus for all modules to see and use.

Have you performed the electronic calibration of the steering angle sensor?

I don't think the iCarsoft tool does it, but that's where I'd look next.

It does seem odd that the the sensor measures correctly turning left, but not turning right. I don't think this is a CAN fault as I think if there was a bad communication on the network you would get faults appear in various other systems relating to bad can signal or words to that effect.

Also was the original sensor you fitted new or second hand? The strange characters displayed strikes me more as a bug in the iCarsoft than info that would be transmitted by the car. Current:
