Please help range rover L322 4.4 tdv8 2011 misfiring !

Please help range rover L322 4.4 tdv8 2011 misfiring !

I recently had the battery replaced on my Range rover, car drove fine for a few weeks.

On my way back home one evening my fuel gauge all of a sudden went to empty, even though I had a full tank of diesel. 20 mins later I had all a number of other warning light come up, battery, charging system not working etc. car also started to misfire

I got home lift the bonnet open and found out both of my battery terminals were lose.

I adjust the clamps so they were tighter round the battery terminals car started battery warning lights have gone but my fuel gauge is still showing empty and the car is still misfiring.

Can someone please help advise, anyone come across this issue before.

Car drove 100% before the battery change.

Bobby,
I would open the bonnet, stop the engine, then leave the car for at least ten minutes to completely shutdown.

Then do a battery reset by removing both battery cables and holding them together.

After this, refit the cables and try again.

Yeah mate. The 2 cables on the car, touch them together. Battery not involved.

Without removing the battery you won't get enough room to literally touch the battery leads together sir...

So, if you use a jump lead and remove the battery terminals, cover that terminals with a piece of something non conductive! Then attach the jump lead to the removed terminals (now with no chance of touching the battery as its insulated) for 3-5 seconds and bobs your aunties cat!!! Battery hard reset performed... Remove the insulated cover and Re-attatch the battery terminals... Thumbs Up

Remember its attach the live terminal first, then the earth... Try to attach the earth in ONE fluid motion Thumbs Up

Thanks Craig,
I didn’t know that it only applied to earlier models and have been doing it out of habit after each battery disconnection.

I think it was a BMW thing Mike, as soon as Ford took over, i guess the steering angle sensor was upgraded to keep its memory... Thumbs Up

If the fuel gauge is still reading empty then the sender unit wiring is causing your problem
Mine did the same, because the car thinks its empty it shuts down for some obscure reason
I did a post about this when it happened to me but I can’t find it on my phone

I really appreciate your info guys you all been very helpful.

The last thing I want to do is give it the Land rover and they sting me with a heavy bill. They tend to do that.

I will do this when i get home home today.

Mine is a 2011 so wouldn't need to do the steering lock from left to right ?

Thanks

If the fuel gauge is still reading empty would this cause the engine to run lumpy ?

Is so what is the process in getting this fixed ?

The fuel sender is a known problem, there’s a TSB explaining the fix. Someone (I can’t remember who) did a good write up with pictures on here.
It’s not difficult just a bit fiddly
