Biggest tyre on 22s?

I currently have a set of hawke chaytons with 285 35 22s... I would like a slightly softer ride and was looking at going to as 45 or a 40 profile - does anyone know if there are issues with this? Current stable:
2006 BMW M6
2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF
Gone:
2002 4.4 V8 FF

Standard on the L405 are 275 40 22 or apparently 285 40 22 on some cars, so they should fit no problem

I am referring to an l322 though not l405 or are you saying should be fine for that? Current stable:

I’ve got 285/40/22 on my L322 and have no issues on 9.5” wheels with a 45 offset

Loads of people running L405 wheels & tyres on L322’s Thumbs Up

You may be able to go slightly bigger, but standard L405 tyres are definitely OK Thumbs Up

A safe option would be 285/40R22. I prefer a wider tire and have had good results with both 305/35R22 and 305/40R22

I was trying to go up as many profiles as I could get away with as I know they are prone to cracking Current stable:

I too was worried about cracking, hence why I went for 40 profile tyres.

I’d say equally as important is the choice of wheel. I’ve read stories about replica wheels being lower quality although I’m sure some are equally good, maybe even better. That’s why I went for genuine LR wheels.

I’ve just bought a TDV8 with Hawke Chaytons. Mine have 285/35x22 and I was wondering what improvement a 40 series tyre would make as well.
I’m not sure if mine is the right offset but the front wheels are flush with the arch compared to slightly inside with a standard LR rim

Aftermarket 22's are sometimes made in two offsets! One for the 322 and another for a 320 (sport) they both fit on the 322 but the 320 wheels sit further out!

To add to this, some manufacturers make 9.0" wide, 10.0" 10.5" & 11.0"... If you get both a set of 320 wheels & a wide setup this can make fitment abit tricky on the 322...

I hope that all makes sense Thumbs Up

Using tyre rolling radius calculations 285/35/22 is the incorrect profile and gives a higher speedo error in relation to the standard land rover wheel and tyre combination.
285/40/22 tyre size is the same rolling radius as original equipment wheels and tyres plus it gives a better ride, tyres can handle the weight of the L322 and discovery 3/4, also the larger profile reduces 22 inch wheels from cracking. Thumbs Up

I’ve got 285 40 22 tyres on my 22” Diaco 5 wheels (9.5”) and the ride is fine.

I had a wobble on the steering around 50-70. A bit like an unbalanced wheel.

Took it in to get all 4 checked and expected a cracked/buckled wheel.

They did need balancing but one of the tyres was slightly out of shape. Took the tyre off and the wheel runs straight on the balancer so it needs a new tyre.

Definitely happy I got 40 profile now, much easier to get a tyre than a wheel.
