Windscreen replacement woes

So I had a 2" crack in the centre of my screen, and with the MOT looming in a month or 2 decided to get it replaced. My insurers glass cover is operated by Auto Windscreens, so I phoned them to arrange a replacement.

Very helpful they were but insisted that I go to them, rather than they come to me, so not subject to weather etc. Their place was 20 miles away but OK. Was told it would take about 90 mins.

Got there yesterday morning, checked which screen they were fitting; it was a Pilkington one so all good there. Wandered off for 2 hours. Came back, still hadn't got the old screen out. Apparently it wasn't budging, and the fitter had broken cutting line and blades trying to get it out. Anyways, another hour passes and he manages to get it out. Then another hour and the new one is in and good to go. So 4 hours in total.

Driving home, i notice grubby black stains on my ivory A post trims. Oh well, bit of cleaning needed.

However nearly home and I hit 60 mph. And there's a god awful racket coming from round the screen. A mix of loud, badly played pan pipes with the sound of something flapping about.

Had a look around it this morning and taken a few pictures. Firstly, is there supposed to be a seal/trim piece where the top of the screen meets the roof? I could have sworn there was but maybe imagining it. Secondly, the scuttle is supposed to be glued to the bottom edge of the screen isn't it? And lastly, the black A post covers shouldn't flap about should they??!

Hmm, I wouldnt be happy with that Rolling Eyes

I would think the screen should be bonded all the way around, as that is part of the structural integrity.

The roof strips are correctly fitted over the top rubber, the gap at the top doesnt look quite right to me though.
It looks like the screen is either fitted a bit low, or lop sided.

As for the grubby hand prints, thats just careless Crying or Very sad Too many toys, not enough time

The rubber bits may settle, especially in the oncoming heat this weekend. The raised bit is probably causing your noise now its in the air flow. With regards the dirt somebody must have signed the job off? = careless. I'd ring them and let them know give it until after the weekend and if still present go back, but you must get that call in or the moment has passed. I had a windscreen change on my RRS1 and the subsequent trim lifting at the bottom around the wipers left a gap which water went in. No real problem but it highlighted the cabin air filter aperture issue and I had a wet foot well = fixed.

Steve.

When I had mine done at Auto Windscreens, the fitter was complaining that the book time was 90mins but it would actually take him at least twice that and it did. I watched every minute of it and helped him lift the new screen in.

It should be bonded at the bottom. Like you they didn't do mine so I turned around and it took him 30s to put some sealant on there which fixed the noise. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

And no, it shouldn't flap around like that. Just checked mine and I can't even get my finger under it. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate
