I know it's been asked before but I'm looking at replacing my tyres shortly and I'm not sure what to go for.

I've heard people say that the 275's fill the arches a little more, which would be good,but will they give poorer ride comfort?

All opinions welcome plus any pics would be great!

Thanks Greg , reading through that it would appear that a 275 45 gives an almost identical sidewall to a 255 50 but are slightly wider. Sounds like they maybe what I'm after.

Which size did you opt for in the end?

Hi Paul, haven't pulled the trigger yet. Tread getting down so need to do it soon.
I'm worried 275/45/50 do look 'thinner' (i.e. wall height / filling aches) but there's not a lot in it. At least from the pics.
265/50/50 maybe better.
I must look like a car thief - I keep checking FF tyres in carparks.

That was my concern although I'm worried about ride quality rather than anything else.

Our car came with 22's and the ride was horrendous. Dropping down to 20's was like night and day.

I think the sidewall difference will be minimal and probably the extra tread on the new tyres will make up for it anyway!

I have 275's on mine (car came with them). Don't like them, but can only compare them with my 19" winter wheels which have a better ride and are quieter. The quality of the tyre also makes a difference and the 275's are cheap brand.

In fact, I haven't put them back on the car even though it's July - still on winters.

Mine was delivered with 255 55 20 Goodyear Eagle F1 SUV's.

The tyre should be 255 50 20 but the dealer assured me that it would simply be 'slightly more comfortable'!

indeed they will be slightly more comfortable but also the speedometer will be more true.. ... - .- -.

Will 275 45's clear ok ? It's a 2005 td6

Anyone any advice re the strut clearance before I take the plunge,

P275/45R20 will be very, very close to OEM spec P255/50R20. Rolling circumference/diameter and sidewall thickness will only be slightly smaller.
