Hi Greg,
not sure it's hard if your mechanically competent, just a bit of a mind twister as you have to remove a core plug and drill a hole into your block.
I did consider doing it, and if my car smoked I probably would.

The kit apparently comes with all the necessary alignment jigs etc.
My dealer said they would need my chassis number to order it against, it's not something usually stocked. Too many toys, not enough time

Ok thx guys.

FWIW I'm here having my DPF cleaned at a turbo specialist. I'm here now and he's spotted too much oil in the outlet from that turbo, an obvious symptom of not having had the drain done. And also the reason in part my DPF's full.
I showed him the tech bulletin. He said it's not going to drain more oil. The new pipe has another (so two) outlets. But still only one outlet from the turbo.

The turbo still drains from the same one outlet, is that correct? I've flicked through the TSB and can't quickly see if the turbo gets any new holes or a bigger hole.

Will flick through again but I'm only on my phone.

Yes sorry Stan I wasn't clear. The new pipe is a kind of Y with two outlets to the engine/sump. But the outlet from the turbo - or inlet of the Y pipe is what the turbo guy is questioning.

I'm sure the boffins have thought it all through, would be good to know exactly how the Y pipe drains better.

Luke the turbo guy showed me a turbo with a 12mm outlet and said you can put a drain pipe on the end but unless the turbo outlet is bigger, a new pipe with extra branches won't drain anymore.

The original pipe connects to a scavenger pump that doesn't do a proper job whereas the extra drain dumps directly into the sump above the oil level.

The 3.0 TDV6 had exactly the same problem but fortunately the original drain hole in the block from the 2.7 Jag's twin turbos was still there so the fix was to re-route the drain to the higher-up hole and block the old hole. When removing the TDV6's old drain one had to expect the drain to be full of oil, which mine was. I'd expect the same with the 4.4.

Graeme, I've read through the PDF, I can see the two plugs that get removed and tapped for the new locations, I can't see the old hole being plugged up...?

Or the lower plug is removed then re-plugged?

Leaving the new hose connecting back to the scavenger pump?

The upgraded drain has 1 pipe going to the original spot and another going to the drilled and tapped top hole. The 2nd hole below the drilled one is used in the drilling and tapping as a drain though which the metal bits are flushed, then re-plugged.

and he then understood, said this drain fix started to make more sense. He still thinks regardless of drain issues, the turbo shaft seals are leaking, letting oil into the main chamber and in his opinion, the turbo would need refurbishing.

What do you think?

Of all the reported 3.0 TDV6 that smoked on hard acceleration after an extended run of light throttle before having the revised drain fitted, I don't recall any turbos having to be subsequently replaced. My old D4 now owned by a son has nearly 250K kms and without a hint of any turbo trouble.
