Hi, I just drained and refilled front and rear diffs which took about a litre each. The transfer box drained about 1.3 Ltrs out and took about 1.6 litres to refill and get to the point where it dribbles from the fill hole.... the general consensus seems to be it should be about 0.95ltr and 1.0ltr from dry??? The car was dead level whilst doing the work so I’m puzzled, did later cars have a bigger transfer box or have I inadvertently gone n filled me glovebox and ashtrays with excess oil? Can anyone throw some light on this? Thanks. |

Phew glad to hear 1.5 ltrs the right amount. I wonder why it never seems mentioned in manuals etc, instead 0.95 ltrs quoted everywhere ad nauseum. I found some particles of metal in the bottom of the old oil...

Hi does anyone think attaching additional magnets to sumps/ diffs/ transfer box, adjacent to the drain plug would be beneficial? I currently have some exceptionally strong but small magnets I’m thinking of placing them as an additional help to capture suspended metal in oil. |

I'm pretty sure the diffs take a measured amount (which is why it's those quantities quoted in the manuals) not filled to the filler hole. If you've done that then you've overfilled it. Ed |
