I just trimmed the ball joint down with a grinder then bashed the remains out with a hammer, was desperate after much previous effort without success. Got enemies? Good, you have stood up for something in your life.

Never regret growing old, it is a privilege denied to many.

Is this the one in the hub/knuckle..

I have 2 issues..

1) the ball joints a seized stuck therefore I can't take the arms off..
2) one of the T50 Torx on the hub has been rounded off..

Left it as is.. Will have another go to see if I can free the arms. I have seen another thread where someone was in a same issue as me and was able to get a socket on the Torx nut and get it off.. Current:

Ok folks to finally managed to replace the lower ball joint and the upper and lower control arms.. noise has gone and it drives like a dream.

Basically, the ball joint splitter I had was not big enough. You need a proper 50mm minimum jaw splitter to do the job.. no hammer would do it..

Best to take the disc and caliper off as it gives you good access. Tips for lower ball joint (in the hub) - I managed to remove the rounded bolt by using an 18mm socket on the top.. and hey presto the bolt came off no bother..

Then came the hard bit.. the old ball joint would not move.. took me an hour atleast.. I wasn't giving up.. I decided to take the top seal off the ball joint, removed the plastic lip that covers the ball joint and the joint came out. Then used my wee propane butane torch and heated it then rust spray and chisel hammer then hammer and chisel from the top in a sequence for about 20 mins and wholla the ball joint casing came out.

I wish I had done this earlier instead of wasting time on it. But lesson learnt for when I am going to do the drivers side. All put back now and just need to torque it up to spec

Johnboy.. it's fairly straight forward and easier than I thought.

Basically the top cover is made of aluminium so if you use the screw drive and hammer to poke through it then work your way to take the cover off which is pressed in. Takes about 10 mins max.. once this is off, there is a white plastic bit pressed into it which basically keeps the ball in place. Again use a flat screwdriver and break the plastic. Once this is out the ball will simply pull up. Takes about 5 mins

This then exposes the inner metal which is not rusted and more receptive to heat. My good old butane propane torch came in handy.. and then I used the sds hammer drill to take it out.. the whole process took me 30 mins. Whereas before this, I had spent atleast 2-3 hours and it didn't move at all.

Hope this helps, give us a shout if you need any help Current:

Have done both sides now. Offside ball joint did not need replacing so it was much easier. Good luck.
