No - but makes sense - the vast majority of people buying from a main dealer forecourt would expect a main dealer history.

European Block Exemption rules mean manufacturers can’t invalidate your guarantee for not using a franchised dealer – as long as the garage follows the maker’s service schedule and uses original equipment parts.

I’ve seen 3 year old L405 Range Rover for sale on MD forecourt being sold as A.U fully warrantied car with a lot more than 7k miles on the clock. I checked everything out with LR UK. There were no issues at all with the non franchised service history because the service and maintenance records, whilst not LR franchised, were A1. LR UK concluded that schedules had been complied with and the fact of the LR AU checks were a clean slate/ start again moment. This might be a case of the dealership not wanting to risk it. |

I am also not surprised they will offer less money if it has not been serviced by a franchised dealer. It is, in fact, worth a little less and it complicates them selling it as approved used.

Phone LR UK CS and ask. They could probably reassure a prospective AU customer not to worry if the selling garage is prepared to give it AU status, however, as Alistair says, they won’t be able to force a franchised garage to take your car in PX. |

We all know MD serving is expensive and the same if not better can be obtained for less elsewhere, but we are also aware of the weight it carries when selling on a vehicle. Especially one so new and of such a high value. It's well known that the money is in the servicing for the MD network so I can understand why they would push for it so much. As for the px price, I can appreciate why you'd be offered less, if I put myself into the shoes of the perspective buyer and also the dealer selling your car then having full MD service history would be a much more attractive proposition.

This is exactly why I'd never get a car under warranty serviced outside the MD network. The amount you save in the service is offset multiple times come trade in. I certainly wouldn't touch a car, less than 3 years old, without a full MD service history. The important thing is the warranty on these cars. Having some 'unknown' service it brings that into question. Also got to question why someone spending 100k on a car is bothered about saving a few hundred quid. |
