Don’t know if this is helpful, but I exchanged my Defender for a Full Fat last year .

I bought the Defender new from the dealer, who had it for the first service but the next two (and MOT) were done by a local independent.

Main dealer didn’t bat an eyelid.

Maybe it depends on the dealer, or how easy they think the car is going to be to shift.

Cost of the two services plus the MOT in total were less than the MD price for the first annual service ...

More than likely that is because of what car it is and they know it will sell regardless.

To be honest, I don't buy cars without full dealer service history. I know it can be done cheaper elsewhere, and I work in a main dealer and do do some bits myself. My 05 SC has FLRSH from the supplying dealer from new and still goes to them for maintenance and service work.

In reality, most customers looking to buy a 5.0 L405 from a dealer would not buy without dealer service history. Private buyers probably won't mind as much so try and get rid of it privately.

Dead simple - it will be part of the terms and condition of a "approved " used vehicle sale that the servicing has to be by LR approved workshop . If not the car can not be sold as LR approved . Its the same with most prestige brands . Independent servicing only works if you are going to keep the car for the long term !

As above they are not aloud to sell it approved used if it does not have fully dealer history regardless of mileage. If it was due a service and was not main dealer done they will just trade it out.

This is not correct. I know of an L405 that had multiple services done by an independent non LR specialist during its first 3 years from new. The documentation for the history was very thorough. It was then sold from an LR franchised garage with a 2 year approved used LR warranty. LR UK had no issues with it.

Thumbs Up

/\ agree - any car can be inspected and if satisfactory have a LR approved warranty

Additionally, I believe a franchised dealer can sell a car without a MD history

Whether they choose to - or what discount they would apply to one without is a commercial decision for them
