RR 3.6 TDV8 2008 - Gear Box Service Kit and Torque convertor

Dear All,

time has come to change oil in automatic gearbox - ZF 6HP26 (Range Rover 3.6 tdv8 2008). Additionally, car experiences revs fluctuation between 1.5k & 2K (https://vimeo.com/259877650). During acceleration around 30mph-40mph you can feel slipping. As a result, I'm planning to:

1.Buy ZF fluid service kit+additional ZF longlife fluid

2. Buy new or remanufactured torque converter.
3. Perform megaflush.

In this regard, I will appreciate any opinion on the matter as follows:

1. Reliable seller in UK for ZF transmission parts! I came across http://www.sussexautos.co.uk/zf-car-parts.php, but have no idea how good is this company?
2. Buy new or choose remanufactured torque converter? I haven't seen new one for sale, only manufactured. I came across different companies across UK, but I am not sure which one to go with. I have been looking into this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Range-Rover-Vog...1438.l2649

Any ideas are welcome and very appreciated.

Rgds,
Alex[/img]

Sussex auto have a good rep on here I believe. Do a search for Sussex and you will see lots of threads about torque converters (normally the td6 rangeRover)

Most remanufactured are probably ok. Try JPat in bristol uk. https://jpat.co.uk/index.html

A flush, or even an oil change is likely to make things worse

At the very minimum, it needs a new TC Thumbs Up

I stand to be corrected but I think Vanmatic in Hayes supply a lot of the auto gearbox trade with parts.

Torque converter symptoms for me were, 1600-2000 rpm, felt like going over a cattle grid.

Tight777

thank you. Based on given information, I am now considering full rebuild of gear box:

1. Torque converter
2. ZF 6HP26A repair kit
3. Oil

I presume it is the way to go in order to avoid any further failure after gearbox reset and further adaption process
I am afraid that oil and torque converter change might cause failure because of incompatibility with other worn out parts of the gearbox.

What do you think?

TDV8 pre-cursor to gearbox failure

Hi all.
I have an '08 tdV8 which has covered 90k miles, with full service history. Even though the gearbox seems to work ok it does whine and whistle excessively in the lower gears. Just wondering is this normal (dont think so) and is this an indication of imminent failure? I think it has had a gearbox flush about 8 months back, before I bought it. What are the symptoms of torque convertor failure? I think the vehicle has done a lot of towing in it's early life - could this be reason for whining / whistling?
Cheers,
Phil.
