TDV8 2012 Westminster clicking noise near to radiator

I have just spent £700+ having the belts and tensioners renewed but the clicking noise is still there when the engine is cold. It goes away when warm. Any ideas please?

....... and apologies that the video is a shot of my foot!

Mine has had a clicking from the same area when cold since I bought the car at 19K kms and 60K kms ago. The FBH is disabled with its fuse removed and the noise is coming from very close to the front so don't think it is the FBH. I haven't determined if it goes away or increases with engine revs as I can't hear it from inside.

Mine occurs without a/c on and is a very light sound, unlike the solid sound of an a/c compressor clutch engaging and there is no compressor noise.
I haven't gone looking for mine's source as I only hear it on my way out and because the clicking noise hasn't changed.

hello,

i have the same sound when it is cold. if it is not the FBH it is possible from draining oïl pump on the 4.4 diesel.

there is a circuit oïl from the turbo drain. the is a little sump on the motor and there is a oïl pump rear the vacum pump

it is for draining turbo when the range is inclined 45°. in this case without this pump the oïl level is upper the turbo

I think when it is cold, the return flow of the turbo is low

,

found this on the US forum-

I get the same sound but it only lasts few seconds so hard to pinpoint, except it is somewhere around front of the engine. tomorrow morning I"ll start car with bonnet open and see if I can figure out where is coming from.

Had a similar noise from radiator area a while back. Check your coolant level when engine cold. Mine was a little low and when topped up the clicking stopped.

Many thanks for all the suggestions. I didn't know what an FBH was until I googled it! I now have a few ideas of things to check at the weekend. I will try with air conditioning on and off. I will check the coolant although I think this would have been topped up when the belts were done. I will also try and check my FBH!

I won't say who changed the belts and tensioners because I am not critical of them doing so. They have looked after my Range Rovers and Discoveries for 25 years and they said it was their best guess at a cure - the decision to proceed was mine.

I will report back when I know more.

The tensioners do go. But if you have that done on the basis of the noise and the noise it still there £700 later then that's not good. But if you're happy with them pls PM me as I'm in London too and always keen to hear a recommendation. That was the only reason I was asking.
Cheers, Greg

Not quite related but I changed all pulleys and belts and water pump and alternator based on age and mileage as preventative maintenance so in my opinion your 700 is well spent Thumbs Up Thumbs Up hope you find the clicking

My last L322 was a 2011 VSE, this had that clicking at cold from new - it sounded like the fan was catching ever so slightly - but not as loud as the YouTube video. It definitely wasn't the FBH on mine as it came from the fan belt area and even did it in 70/80 degree temperatures when the FBH isn't running.

The main agent repeatedly tried to identify it at every service and couldn't find anything, in the end I lived with it for over 69k miles and it was never a problem.

I put it down to possibly being a viscous unit clicking.

If it had been clicking all the time then I would have been more concerned, but it only happened occasionally when cold and the vehicle was under LR Warranty - plus the issue was logged from new - so if it did cause a problem LR would have struggled to get out of it

It can't have been that serious an issue as mine was like that from New and for the duration I owned the vehicle 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

My 2011 4.4 TDV8 does exactly the same. I had all my tensioners and pulleys along with belts changed as one of them was squeaking, and the clicking hasn’t changed. Does it from cold every time.
