Use this to find febi parts.

https://cars.febi-parts.com/vehicle.php?lang=GB

I checked the part number of the locking kit and found it on island 4x4 as for the later engine , doesn't say it is for the bmw 4.4, yours is 4.4 BMW vanos engine isn't it ?

Yours is the 4.4 V8 2002 - 2005 (maybe sneaking into 2006) which is the M62TUB44 BMW engine, the other 4.4 engine started 2005 ish but really 2006 - 2009 and is the Jaguar engine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_AJ-V8_engine#Land_Rover_4.4

just to confuse things further there is a 4.4 V8 diesel later on as well.

The electrics changed at the same time and the touch screen satnav was added.

i have been working on a TD6 l322 2006 which has a BMW engine and a mix of BMW and JLR electrics which is a pain.

Let us know where you are with it and if you need febi part numbers i have them all for the guides and chains if you are swapping them but mine weren't stretched at all but others have been.

With fitting your cam locking blocks in place you should be using a 27 mm spanner on the camshafts to line them up but if you are not confident in your locking kit then you can buy the locking blocks separately over here but the sets are so cheap over you could buy another complete kit but the German Auto Solutions i linked look really good if your budget can stretch to them, they do hire them out but I'm not sure if that applies outside the usa.

thanks for that info holidaychicken, i thought it funny, that motor running to 2010
After seeing your photos and other information I have gathered, I now know that the cam blocks are correct and am quite happy to continue

your link doesn't work, if it is the instructions you are trying to to download then go to the link below and then download the pdf from there. On my screen where the pdf shows there is a down arrow at the top right corner of the screen to download.

Thats ok you don't need that thing, it's part of the crankcase ventilation i believe but yours is at the back of the engine in a marginally easier place to access.
That will be an engine out of a BMW but I'm not sure if that was fitted there because it is a BMW or whether it is because the M62TU fitted in the Range Rover was only 2002-2005 and that feature was fitted outside that date range, either way you don't need it.

I used a combination of Rave Manual on a laptop in my garage as that will be correct for your vehicle and then a mix of the beisan site instructions and the german auto solutions instructions as some parts of the procedure were explained better in the different write ups.

Keep the faith brother Very Happy

When you come to put your upper timing chain covers and cam covers on you will need the correct sealant in the correct place as shown in rave and the other sites.

i have always used Loctite 5900 in place of the STC50550 (old number is STC4171) land rover product but i notice that brit-car site is showing loctite 598 as an equivalent. You can buy the genuine land rover branded product easily off ebay as you can the others so your call really but i think i will try the loctite 598 next time.

Edit - it would seem the 598 is not readily available in the uk but 5980 is - go with the STC genuine if you are concerned but reading the product selector from loctite the 5900 still looks like a good alternative.

Just to update my own ramblings regarding the sealant, i contacted Loctite / henkel who replied very promptly and with lots of good information but in summary, 598 is a very old product, 5980 is a newer version and something to do with labelling but the 5900 is recommended with the 5910 being a slightly lower viscosity version with a slightly longer curing time which is what i will be going with when i pull mine apart again in a few weeks time.

Haven’t worked on my RR for a while, the tail end of a cyclone came through so I had to cover everything up and I have been busy doing other things
It rained for a few days and was very windy
So today I set things up and went to work.
As per instructions, loosen the torx bolt exhaust camshaft 5-8 bank, left hand thread
Would not undo, tried again, snap?
Had to cut the chain with the angle grinder
The camshaft is now in the vice, 24” stillson and it going no ware.
and thrers still four left to do

While it was raining, I made some chairs to hold the cam locks down, only fitted one at this stage but they seem to work quite well RR 2005 4.4 petrol

They are left handed, i would imagine somebody has had a problem with them coming loose, which i have heard of or they were just being over careful and they have used loctite on the threads. i think it is when cheap torx bits have been used that twist rather than tighten the bolts

Air impact wrench to try and shock it with a good impact bit ?
