Is it worth buying a second hand diesel ?

Looking to change y 4.2 ideally looking for a 5.0 but they are like rocking horse poop so is it worth buying a diesel 4.4 short term or better to wait for a 5.0 ?? Confused Question

i changed from a 4.2 to a tdv8 Sandy and i'm glad i did...i now dont worry about the fuel consumption and this benefits greatly on long trips...
the diesel is a bit more noisier and vibrates a bit but you soon get used to that...the led dash is a bonus.. ... - .- -.

I remember you changing to a Westie my only reason for changing is that the RAC cover I have is only vehicles up to 11 years old and mine is 11 in June but drives beautifully and no faults
Dilemma - have been looking for a 5 but there are just none around and there are some pretty good 4.4 around for 25k

If you opt for an early L405 4.4 tdV8, make sure to check that it has had the turbo drain mod done otherwise you could have problems with the new MOT smoke tests they are talking about.
I agree with Stan though. The 4.4 is a dream car to own and the longer the run the better it feels. (500+ miles per tank full).

Good feedback I do about 20k a year with at least two runs down to South of France and am getting a bit hacked off with refuelling stops

you defo wont have a problem on the 'acceleration' on tdv8 Sandy....and you'll find the engine will idle at around 1500rpm at 80mph.. ... - .- -.

Sandyt,
At 60mph it is running At literally tick over revs, but as soon as you floor the accelerator the revs shoot up and the second turbo kicks in at 2500rpm, by which time you are “low flying” Very Happy .
I have never driven a petrol version, but I definitely don’t need anything with more kick or speed than my 4.4 tdV8.

Can't imagine you'll be disappointed with the acceleration, economy or speed of a 4.4 TDV8.

But I am, of course, biased Smile What do I put here then?

I find the problem is keeping the speed down Embarassed

It's definitely worth driving one - I find the mid range acceleration very impressive

The L405 SDV8 is even better Very Happy

We have both 5.0 SC and 4.4 SDV8 in the family, whilst the SC is only 1 second faster to 60, the 4.4 SDV8's pick up from 60 to 100 is brutal - it just doesn't give up due to the Torque with no flat spots. Trust me whilst a supercharged is quicker in a drag run it will not shake off an SDV8 which will be snapping at its heels all the way - does anyone drive like that normally ? Making the minute difference between the two immaterial. Plus the V8 Diesel returns 28/35 and the SC 12/18 mpg 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
