It means approving a new engine within a day ! Very impressed with the smooth warranty, pity it happened, but what a service to fix it ! Difficult to believe the L405 would not be covered under A.U warranty and/ or that A.U L405 customers could be left with a potentially large bill to part pay in the event of a failure.

Well I have just got off the phone to Landrover customer services and they have stated that in the case of a crankshaft failure out of LANDROVER WARRANTY but under extended warranty they cannot confirm they would “ contribute “ to the repair . They say they can only take each case on a case by case investigation basis. I did say I would put this statement on this forum and they did not seem to care one bit . What this means is that my 20 year relationship with Landrover may well end soon. |

I think that's a fair answer tbh. Why should they give a blanket approval to every vehicle. If the vehicle has been fully serviced in accordance with manufacturers specs and not modified - I.e. No dodgy remaps, then I am sure you would be fine. I would also want to assess each vehicle on a case by case basis to make sure I wasn't paying for and fixing an issue caused by others ![]() |

Well I have read up on this on the RRS forum and it’s been suggested that there is a one in hundred chance of it happening and if true although not ideal it makes me feel a little better about it. If there was poll on here of everyone that has the 3.0 engine to see how many have actually had a failure it might give a better idea of the chance of failure . |

LR UK wrote to me to explain what it means when you see reference to service bulletins and service messages, for example on TOPIx: ...technical bulletin and service messages are issued as guides for repairers and to clarify repair procedures and are not an indication that all vehicles are affected and in many instances, very small numbers may be involved. Just as they were marketed at the point of our purchase, quotes at the foot of this post remained on the LR UK website on 28.01.18.
