It's a very tough question I think! I'm looking for my first L322 now, to replace my Defender 110, and with all the diesel fuss and the fact I don't do many miles, am looking at the Supercharged versions.

The 4.2 seems to have the slightly better reliability reputation, but the 5.0 brings various other improvements to the vehicle, and the timing chain seems to be the main issue?

For ~£20k, most of the 5.0's are fairly high mileage. I did really like the look of this Nara Bronze one that came up a couple of weeks ago for £18.5k, but haven't so far managed to get across to look at it, and it sold today: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Range-Rover-Aut...7675.l2557 .

Or for a similar price, a much lower mileage and well spec'd 4.2: https://www.thevoguecentre.co.uk/used-cars...2232254101

Is 100,000 miles considered high for a Supercharged? As I'd be planning on keeping it for several years, doing ~8k per year.

That gold 5.0 is going to take some beating. Lovely looking car.

As you say, the 5.0 gets other improvements as well as the engine. Interior is much nicer. 4.2 is supposed to be Bullet proof though.

Though decision.

Agreed, I probably should have moved quicker on that Nara Bronze one, someone's got a beautiful car there.

I just wasn't quite ready to move on it, as I don't really have space to keep 3 cars for very long.

I'll get the Defender on the market this weekend, and will then be in a better position when I see something good come up.

I definitely don't want black or white though, which rules out ~90% of S/C's...

I like the sound of bullet proof, coming from the Defender, and clearly any interior is going to be a significant upgrade on that.

100k is not a lot to be honest. Mine has done nearly 105k and is fine and is an 05 4.2.

I can only speak of the 4.2sc as I have one and my business partner has another, his is 206000miles and mines on13000miles, both have never let us down, yes you get the odd stupid thing but it never stops it going.

Super, thanks both for the info - makes me want one even more!

The Defender got a deep clean today and is now up for sale, so assuming that shifts in the next few weeks, am very actively looking for an L322 to replace it Very Happy

This came up at one of the local Main Dealers today, and looks to be in superb condition, and a comparable price to some of the other 2007/2008's with low miles that I've looked at: http://www.lookers.co.uk/land-rover/used-c...-4dr-auto/ .

Will try to sneak out of the office a bit early to go and see it this evening hopefully.

Too late - even though it only came onto AutoTrader this morning when I woke up, I was on my way there this evening but the garage called just as the train pulled into Vauxhall to say it was sold subject to finance, so I turned round and went home again. Couldn't believe how fast that one went!

Will keep looking...

I’ve had similar happen to me twice before.

And both times the buyer’s finance wasn’t approved and I ended up with the car.

So a call to the dealer asking for first refusal if the sale falls through could be a plan. What do I put here then?

I've been keeping an eye on Auto Trader and the number of 5.0 L322's on there has fallen dramatically recently.

Looking for Range Rovers with engine size set to >5.0 there's only 4 L322's on there.

I wonder if people are buying these rather then diesels at the moment.

Yes, they have promised me that, so will wait and see, and/or give them a call at lunchtime tomorrow to see if it's gone through.

Hmmm, there must be something else in your search as well then - I can see way more than 4 L322 5.0 S/C's?

But certainly at the ~£20k mark, there seems to be a very limited selection of really good S/C's, and they seem to go pretty quickly as well if my last 6 weeks of watching is anything to go buy.

I'm moving away from my diesel Defender into one of these (hopefully!), so I wonder if other people are similarly buying the S/C's at the moment.

Since buying my 07 yr supercharged last year,I've been keeping an eye in prices for them, they've definitely increased in the last 6 months,Not sure if it's the traditional price increase for 4x4's that generally happens at this time of year or wether people are dumping the oil burners?
