Windscreen Wash or Antifreeze

I thought the pink stuff I filled my washer bottle with was Windscreen Wash I now think it was Antifreeze (label had washed of as I keep both outside). Embarassed
I could drain it or I could just put a squirt of detergent in and just use it in the normal way.
What do others think - apart from the fact that I'm losing it. Very Happy Geoff

Oh dear........easily done.... Shocked

I thought anti-freeze would damage paintwork and I don't know what it would do to the plastic washer system and seals or any trims on the front of the car Big Cry

If it was me I would drain it, refill with clean water and then run quite a bit of it through to clear out the pipes and nozzles etc and then make sure you refill with correct stuff. 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

Rob99's is good advice Thumbs Up ,

If it were me I would also hose the car down straight away afterwards to dilute any residue that remains on the paintwork. Ive got power screen jets for the headlights and when they fire it goes everywhere.

Pink does sound like anti-freeze.

I also thought it was quite damaging stuff to paintwork, but not sure how bad - I certainly don't worry if I get it on my skin.

However, I'd be looking to drain it and dilute as best I could.

...and just to add:

that stuff should be disposed of properly, maybe a local garage would take it rather than down the drain...

Good luck!

Thanks guys - neither does it clean the screen well Big Cry I wasn't going to drain as such just go for a drive and use the washers until there was none left then fill up with clean water - long drive I know Very Happy And when i get back I'll also rinse the car with the hose pipe just in case. Geoff

IIRC it's quite easy to remove the washer bottle entirely on an L322 - I'd definitely do that as likely far easier than burning out the washer motor or something dumb......

Im using the Stan method, had to get some thin hose in order to insert far enough to be effective but flushing is in progress as I type. Too cold to be messing about removing bottles etc Very Happy Geoff

Interesting effect while flushing, a small spurt is emanating from the headlamp washer as well. SWMBO said i needed something rigid to insert into the hole, was she trying to tell me something or just being helpful Whistle

And I edited as you've probably noticed - didn't want to look daft in the eyes of other forum members. Well no dafter than a man who puts anti-freeze in washer bottle. Very Happy Geoff

If it makes you feel any better, my wife's best friend topped up her washer bottle at a petrol station using their watering can.

A kindly passer by advised her not to try starting the car as she was basically pouring water straight into the engine. She had just seen one cap when she opened the bonnet, so started filling that Rolling Eyes
