Scotland 2011 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Stornoway Grey

Hi, just thought I'd say that this is a great forum. Currently don't own a RR but my mum owns a FL2 and my dad a Range Rover Autobiography and drive that around (When he isn't cleaning it) Mates call me the Tank commander. I'm 20 and currently attend Uni in Glasgow and once I finish and get my own house hoping to get one.

Thanks Thumbs Up

356pilot how do you find the Touareg for driving and such like , quite fancy one of those ......

Hi Mick - well, I've had it for I guess 6 or 7 years now, since new. I still love it after 90,000 miles. In a nutshell:

Positives: Driving position and comfort, gizmos, performance vs economy balance just right, practicality, "toughness" (interior looks like a 15k miler rather than nearly 100k, and I got 65,000 miles out of the first set of discs and pads!), image (it doesn't have one... it is somewhat anonymous, which is quite good sometimes!), reliability has been pretty good. It is decently quick with the 3.0 V6 TDI, feels much faster than the paper figures suggest and it doesn't feel too heavy on the twisty roads either, does quite an impressive job of cornering unless you get too silly. It's also got me out of some pretty hairy weather (a flood or two, and some proper snow) living as I do in the Peak District. I've slept in the back of it with the seats collapsed (v comfy and a handy pair of 12v sockets in the back for the coolbox and kettle) and towed a hefty trailer with my classic on it - it doesn't seem to notice that it's towing, the engine is a corker.

Negatives: Can be a tad expensive to run - when it does need work, the VW prices can be eye-watering. You need a good specialist to keep those costs contained. Dealer experience - VW made much of their "prestige" brand experience for the Touareg and Phaeton, but they've forgotten about it now - forget special treatment, you're lucky to get a VW Fox courtesy car, let alone something with back doors. My local dealer Smith Knight Fay in Stockport are not my favourite people. Ride - can be a little harsh on poor surfaces, for a car you might expect to be like a mobile armchair (perhaps better on the 18" wheels, I'm on 19" with Diamaris). Tyre wear - it seems to need wheel alignment more often than I'd like, and when it goes out of alignment it chews through tyres, though it will make them last if you make sure it's tracking true.

Well I think the positives outweight the negatives - it's been a fine car, and my wife loves it so much I'm keeping it as her car now I've got the Rangey. In fact I'd have said it was the best car I've owned... until today, when I got my RR at last (wow, that's another story ... it's like floating along on God's sofa!!)

Hello all,
Just joined and wished to say I very much look forward to participating in such a good forum.
I'm a member of a forum that caters for owners of the Vauxhall Omega, as I also own a 2003 Omega V6 Elite so am used to the principles of a vehicle forum, but it's rare to find one as good as this which no doubt I'll enjoy as much as I enjoy the Omega forum.
I'm a motor trader from Oxford, my name is Josh Wyatt as my rather uninventive forum name suggests Laughing
I look forward to getting to know the regular members and helping out in any way I can.

Thanks Josh,

I will be looking out for your car Thumbs Up

Most of of my cars are sourced via a good network local dealers specialising in other prestige brands plus cars taken in PX so not very often sorry.

Howdy

In my seemingly unending search for my perfect RR (now got it . . . ), a chap at an undisclosed main dealer disclosed the following -

If you turn up at Buckingham Palace in a (FF) Range Rover, they will check the guest list and let you in . . . .
If you turn up in a Range Rover Sport, they will think you're there to tarmac the drive . . . .

I nearly fell off my chair

Laughing Where do you go after one of these . . . ?
