Hi all,
Am new to the forum and also a new owner of the above mentioned vehicle.
I recently noticed that the left front airbag for the suspension would drop down when ever i parked over night.So i ordered new struts(suspension air bags) for both left and right front airbags.
We have since changed them but the problem is calibration.
1. the rim size is 22inch and for most of the search i have done, i find they only talk about 20inch rims and the standard height at :Front 493 and back 483.
2.All the lights on the height control switch come on and i dont understand what this means.
Can anyone please give us some clear guidance on the fix for this.Am slowly getting the frustration but since i decided to buy such a vehicle, i dont want to give up.

This post seems to be in the wrong section, this section is for showing off your car, not getting help with it which may be why you haven't had any replies.

When I had 22inch wheels on my car I had the calibration done as if it had 20inch wheels and thought it looked perfectly afterwards, it appears whoever had tried it in the past was trying to raise the car and the height sensors were right on their maximum values.

Hopefully Stan / A moderator can move this post and you will get some more replies!!

if you want to check your at correct ride height.

But measurements for calibration are always taken from the hub centre (IID/AllComms), and therefore the same for any wheel/tyre combination  .

Yes this is what I was told when I looked before.

But the Land Rover garage I went to before the tool they used clearly said it needed to be measured from the bottom of the wheel lip for pre 2005/06 Range rovers and this is confirmed a lot places online.

There�s even a YouTube video on how to do suspension setup on YouTube for the older models too.

i cant see why pre 2006 FF's would be any different to the newer ones..

these pics are from the 2010-2012 WM and specify to measure from the centre of the wheel,

I cannot remember which named tool they were using (but was range rover specialist garage), but i was there when they needed to input numbers and on the earlier cars on there tool it needed to be measured from the bottom wheel. which is why i had the sheet above.

I was told when the system changed from BMW gear to Ford systems running gear they then measure from the hub instead and input those numbers.

Like said above, when i had mine setup due having height sensors replaced and running the larger wheels 22" as i am now... this was never an option in 2003 for 22" wheels and largest was 20" they had to enter the 20" numbers above measuring from wheel lip to top fender. this made the height perfect in all settings.

They said setup for cars 2005/06 on wards is much easier as was changed to use hub height, and when i was there the tool clearly stated needed measurement from wheel lip to top arch for my year via image on the screen. even give recommended settings on tool.

There quite alot information online about how to setup height.. but the older cars are different.

This is causing confusion.

Logic will tell you that the hub centre to top of the wing WILL be the same on all L322 models, doesn't matter what size wheel or tyre you have. Front 493 +/- Rear 483 +/- .

The original AllComms software did use wheel rim measurements, but then changed to hub centre. IIDTool uses hub centre measurements. I have IIDTool and AllComms and do calibration on my '02 L322 (don't get much earlier than mine ) using hub centre measurements.

There is nothing different about earlier cars.


@ stan, like the look of the special tool, is this because LR techs don't know how to use a tape measure? .

Can I ask, were you still having the same problem after fitting the new struts?

I mean, was the front left still dropping overnight even after changing the struts or it's not dropping but it now need to be calibrated?

The reason I'm asking is that I'm having the same trouble and but haven't managed to find a leak, just wondering if calibration is my problem.

What functions and support does your Launch x431 give you for the air suspension?
If not much, you may need a more specific tool to do it yourself.

"All the lights are on" ? < this sounds like a hard fault

All of them, all the time ? or just as one might expect....?

Given you have changed both struts, you either have a leak on the valve block, the line or connection to the strut, or a problem with the height sensor.

A good test ( if you can do it safely) is to leave a door (not the tailgate) open for a few hours and see if the corner drops. If it does, most likely a leak, if it doesn't most likely a sensor (as the FFRR routinely tries to level itself even when locked up and left). .

Hi Guys,
The actual measurement doesn't matter with regards to the EAS dropping one corner or throwing a fault. Both measurement methods should work just fine - albeit the vehicle may be a little higher or lower than ex-factory.

John, it is not completely clear from your post what the problem is now after the struts have been changed. Is it still dropping one corner overnight? Or do you now have a fault code?

To be honest, it sounds like you may have a leak outside of the struts or another issue if it is just the one corner dropping.

*Disclaimer: this post may make me sound biased against the Launch system. I am.*

The problem with the Launch is that it is a reverse engineered Testbook - and that is all. There has been no additional work put into the system to make sure that any issues the Testbook may have had have been eliminated or that the additional information provided by the Testbook in conjunction with the RAVE is all there and referenced in pop-up screens, etc.

The Testbook calibration procedure itself is already very sensitive to surface irregularities - make sure that you have an absolutely flat, level surface when performing a calibration with the Launch. I'd suggest getting hold of a copy of the RAVE and following the procedure 1 to 1. Or find another system to do the calibration with. It does not need to be ours.
