I recon that in the last 2 years 90% of all 4.4tdv8 problems reported by members can be seen on that picture.
Either splits in the rubber hoses or in the plastic manifolds, or the air changeover valve stuck.!!!
I have had 2 out of the 3.[/quote]

Are these repairs a permanent fix or are they coming back??The manifold and changeover valve has been done and my car has the new hose connections.

The air changeover valve and the 4 short rubber hoses have both been modified and replaced with an improved design so these should be permanent fixes.
The splits in the plastic manifolds seem more random.
Several members have reported splits in the seam of the top plenum chamber, and recently one report of a split in the actual manifold. I am trying to monitor all members reports to work out common fault histories. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

Mikeyp,

I have just removed the pollen filter mounting with the bonnet lid in the upright position to inspect the O rings and down the back of the engine . Thankfully no sign of Craig's oil leak problem yet.
I decided that replacing the plenum chamber (No 9 ) and the 4 short hoses would be relatively easy, but replacing the manifold (either LH or RH ) looks a bit of a nightmare.
Good luck if you decide to tackle it, and please take plenty of pictures . G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

I have just found this alternative diagram showing both RHand and LHand inlet manifolds.

Sorry but looks like a difficult job to me.
I bet the part won't be cheap either ?
Is it made of plastic? or aluminium?

There will be a fair bit to strip to get this off, the intake manifold and rubbers hoses for starters. Those bolts for the manifold will need to be torqued down in order too. As I said originally not impossible but a big job. BB is right, if you are not confident don't start it. Find a good local garage and get them to do it, as before it is nut and bolt work, but better safe than sorry if you're not confident.
Then there is the expense of the parts too, that manifold will be a few hundred I think. Once again good luck and keep us informed how you get on. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Stu,
I don't normally like the thought of "botched " types of repairs, but if it were mine I think I would strip it down as far as removing the 4 short hoses and plenum chamber, clean everything up and look to finding an interference fit sleeve to glue
in , then glue the broken bit to the sleeve to ensure an air tight seal .
That is assuming the actual inlet manifold is made of plastic, but I bet it is aluminium, in which case it will have to be replaced.

Cheers

I agree 100% with you Mike, a bodge job is not an option! The only type of job is 100% correct first time. I would get the prices for all relevant parts and quotes for labour then make my mind up, but if you are confident and got all the tools this is not beyond you.

Just been out and had a quick look and that manifold feels like plastic to me. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Has the OP solved his problem? Was the inlet/camcover broken? What material is it made off?
If the inlet in fact broke then it is a very unlikely place to break. There is no stress as both plenum and inletmanifold/camcover is attached to engine block and connected with rubber connections. If the inlet is alu or alloy I suppose any welding shop should be able to fix it?Plastic will be more difficult to repair?
Looks like quite a job!! 2012 TDV8 Vogue SE 4.4

Checked the inlet/camcover.....seems like some composite material(plastic),not metal! 2012 TDV8 Vogue SE 4.4

I suppose that the original design of hose allowed for a bit of vibration, being a bit more flexible, but the newer hoses are really pretty rigid.

I have been meaning to reply to this topic since my manifold split in October.
My manifold (passenger side - UK RHD) whet pop in France when it was towing my race trailer.
Exactly the same as the photo on page 1.
When it was repatriated back to my local LR service centre, they had the car repaired quick smart. I elected to have the 'donut' and both rocker covers done.

The interesting bit was the huge discount that LR gave me for the work.
They effectively knocked 40% off the bill without me even asking....the only thing I said when the car was dropped off was "is this on a recall?"

This is obviously a known issue.....

My 2012 version of Microcat shows the MY13 L405 4.4 is fitted with manifolds with later part numbers than the L322 4.4. The earlier part numbers supersede to the later part numbers suggesting improvements in the design. As several upgrades to the 4.4 occurred late 2011 or early 2012, it is likely that the updated manifolds were fitted to later L322 engines.

When my son and I replaced my son's MY10 D4 3.0 TDV6 RH manifold a couple of years ago we could see external improvements in the design in several areas and could feel thicker material in some spots. Whilst there have been many revisions of the 3.0 manifolds, there has been only 1 revision of the 4.4's manifolds and air intake so hopefully the current design survives well.
