Detailing Polisher - Advice

As some of you may be aware, i like to give my car a good clean and then wax so on.

Always done this by hand and am thinking of getting a machine to speed the waxing process.

I always use Autoglym products.

Would anyone have recommendations on polishers ?

Been looking at a DeWalt DWP849X-GB 150/180mm 1250W Premium Variable Speed Polisher which seems to be very good.

around the £160 mark.. any recommendations on pads/polishers you use ? for just applying and then buffing off.

thanks 2003 Range Rover 4.4 Litre V8 - Adriatic blue

Consider which of the 2 types of machine you are going to use, I.e. Rotary or dual action. I know little about DA machines but if a rotary is your thing a Makita 9237 is a well made bit of kit. I have 2 of them and they make progress quite rapid.

If your looking to get into detailing,to start with I'd recommend getting a dual action, less likely to knacker the paint up which can easily be done with a rotary which requires more concentration and technic.
I use a meguires da with meguires compounds and finish off with autoglym high definition wax,the finish and beading of water last for months Thumbs Up

I purchased a Dodo Juice DA kit and have had really good results with it, plenty of info on YouTube to steer you in right direction, was a little nervou at first but seems you can't do much wrong with a DA polisher as compared with the old rotary ones, certainly gets rid of swirls on my Black RR paint, used Meguires Ultimate compound and a water spray from a trigger bottle stop it drying out as polishing, do part panel at a time, wiping off with microfibres cloth. 👍

Those would be the mini 12 volt things as sold in Halfords, car boot sales etc. Being only 12v and also direct drive from the motor to the head they have very little torque. This is important to maintain a steady head speed with different pressures so as not to bog down and mar the paint.

The key to getting good results is to use as powerful and steady a machine as you can cope with. Combined with good polishing foam heads and a decent quality polish (not T-Cut) you will get a decent result. Also, with a less powerful machine you get much less in the way of results so the temptation becomes one of going to a much coarser polishing compound than is needed and you end up with holograms, almost like having spread wax on and not buffed it off properly.

I have one of those, they're mains powered and quite powerful for a cheap polisher. However, there's only one mop as such and two slip on covers to fit over it. They're orbital but not got much throw, so the pile on the head seems to take up the orbital throw to a certain extent.
For just general polishing they're ok, easier than hand polishing. On flat bits like roof and bonnet I dropped the polisher on a micro fibre cloth, so the polisher does the work. That brings up a real good shine Thumbs Up

Personally I'm thinking of knocking up some new mop covers oput of micro fibre cloths as I think they'll be better, be a decent tool then Thumbs Up

IIRC Meguiars do a microfibre kit to go with their DA polisher.
