Can you not fit an updated torque converter? Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

The 6HP26 was never designed to physically mate to the M62 engine nor the NV225 transfer box and the electronic/control integration issues would be insurmountable, in my opinion. It would be far easier & cheaper to sell your car and buy a later 6-speed model than to replace the 5-speed box with a 6-speed unit.

Hi - so if you fitted the 280mm torque converter it could handle extra beams? |

ZF also added an extra friction & steel plate to the D-clutch to increase its capacity but basically, yes, that it. The radial stiffening ribs in the bellhousing are machined to accommodate the bigger converter.
