Help needed with RANGE ROVER SCL / ESL / ELV EMULATOR

Hi I have the dreaded steering column lock failure. So I bought a RANGE ROVER SCL / ESL / ELV EMULATOR. Fitted it no probs. Keys turns everytime but engine will not turn over. The site I bought it from says this:

HINT - if key turns, but there is no start allowed: find wire directly coming from EWS to ESL (P/N signal, wired through ESL) and short it to +12v. Or recode EWS to ignore this wire (on most cars it is ignored by default).

Can anyone please help with this so I know what am looking for. Obviously my EWS does not ignore this wire by default. I have an 02 plate l322 4.4 v8.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

the EWS ECU is for the immobiliser chip in key, it can be found driver side next to the gear lever, maybe find a pin out diagram some where for the correct one

Hi. Thanks I thought it was around that area. A white box isn't it? Presume I will have to take all the trim apart around the gearstick to see it?

Found a diagram. There are three wires however that go to the steering wheel, now I need to workout which one needs to be wired permanently to 12v

Do you think by them saying "P/N signal wired through esl.. ." They mean park /neutral?

yes white box, you need to remove the cubby hole, down to the gear lever leather, it's a white box drivers side, loosen the 1 bolt you can see, you can then lift it out without fully removing the bolt, from memory you lift it and pull it towards back of the car


the P/N wire for park nutrual seems reasonable maybe send them an email to confirm

Contacted the seller. Asked them if they could tell me which wire I am looking for and does p/N stand for park/neutral.

They told me:
Yes. Because p/n is wired through esl...
You can download some wiring diagrams too - just follow links in item description."

So am still not quite sure which wire am looking for but I think it must be the park neutral wire

This is one of the diagrams on the site. Do you think it is pin 6 that I need to feed 12v to? Am getting awfully confused.

I will have to stop at this point as I can't be certain and would hate for you to.follow my advise then brake something further

Is yours a td6?

No it's a v8. Something just doesn't add up with what information I have been given. Maybe something has been lost in translation.

Hi. No I haven't. The emulator will let me turn the key everytime but not start the car. I have had the car into a land rover specialist recently, infact they had it for two weeks because it had so many faults that needed repairing and its got to go back for the air conditioning because the regassed it but must of not tested it because it doesn't blow cold. Fuel gauge doesn't go all the way to the top either but I can live with that for now.
I had them look into reprogramming the ecu to ignore the p/n wire but they said they couldn't do it and wouldn't put a live 12v feed to the actual wire because they were afraid of causing damage to the ecu. I still don't know which wire it is am looking for.
There must be someone out there that has used this same emulator.

Im having the same issue as you smiler, I emailed them about running 12v to ews to esl and got the following response:

Make sure that + 12V power supply properly, already with key in ON position on dash.
After installing emulator, and before starting the car, clear all errors with diagnosis.

will check there arent any errors with allcoms but cant imagine this will help

So what are they actually saying? That we need to provide this extra 12v supply to the p/n wire whilst the ignition key is on but don't try to start the car and do it before plugging in the emulator and we must make sure there are no errors?
