Rear washer non return valve

Hi, may be a daft question. Should you be able to blow through the non return valve when its off the car? Im getting no water coming out through the rear jet when activating the rear washers. I would have expected to be able to blow through it like i can on the fish tanks non return valve but cant. Had the valve in bits but all looks ok to me. If its faulty would anyone know the part number and/or price?

Should be able to blow through it in one direction only.

Thats what i thought. Membrane must be knackered then, although it looks ok.

You could try joining the two pipes where you removed the NRV together and see if you get water then.

I tried a spare one off the fish tank but the pipes are wider than the valve will allow so it popped off quite easily. Water definitely reaches the valve as It went all over the towel in the boot I had on hand when it popped off. will have to see if i have anything i can connect the two pipes together to bypass the valve.

If you can't find anything to connect the two pipes try getting a mouthful of water and blowing it through the pipe to washer end yourself.

Don't use a mouthful of beer...........that's just a waste........ Laughing

any NRV will do. yet another weak spot, but an easy fix. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Defiantly the non return valve. Cant blow anything through it, tried really hard and I backfired sending the dog scattering across the kitchen after she gained traction on the laminate flooring. Been back out to it while its stopped raining and the tube is long enough to reach the connector on the wiper motor, retried and it worked, although it was a little dribble. Poked a pin into the jets and tried again and now works much better so just need to get a new valve from a motor factors tomorrow and blow it all out with the compressor.

On another note, are the jets direction adjustable with a pin? Didn't get a good look as the wiper arm wasn't in the best position and my slippers were slowly filling with water from the puddle I was stood in courtesy of the rubbish weather this week. 2011 RR Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

Hmmm ... wondering if this is the issue with mine, as I too have no rear wash. Sad

Whereabouts is the NRV fitted?? Regards,
Mick

NRV is in the top of the upper bot lid.

you have to remove the upper trim piece on the inside. its a fiddly bit of plastic to get back on, you have to make sure you don't bend/break the tangs on the plastic. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

All sorted. Picked up a non return valve from a local motor factors and fitted. Unfortunately it was hopeless and leaked everywhere, as if it couldn't cope with the pressure going through it. Tried all sorts to get it to work, wrapping it with plumbers ptfe tape etc but couldn't stop it leaking. Rang a land rover dealer and there parts department told me the valve doesn't come separately and is part of the hose, at a cost of just over £30. Took myself off to rs components to see if there was anything suitable to do the job and had no luck there. Thought I would end up ringing back the stealership to order the hose however I live close to boltonbits and called in on my way past and hey presto, washer jet non return valve £2. Fitted tested and no leaks, happy days. Back home and refitted the trim.

Taking the trim panel off, I started in the middle to get it started. Pulled slightly (with a bit of force) to release the clips without coming all the way out, used an old hand towel (bit of a sharp edge on the trim and helps to keep dirty marks off it) to slide across the bottom edge towards the right hand side till it got tight and did the same pulling away without going all the way, and finally repeated the same on the left hand side edge, keeping a bit of pulling pressure on the middle to stop it all popping back into place. Once clips were started gave it sharp tug on the right hand side, came out with a right cracking noise and thought i had bust the trim panel, however it was only the noise of the plastic popping off the other trim that runs vertically down the side of the glass. They fit in to each other. Popped the middle bit out fully to get a bit more tension on the remaining clips on the left. One last sharp tug and it was free, no clips broken.

Taking the trim off needs a firm hand and pulling out straight, you don't have much side to side movement available as this is what will cause the clips to break. Slow and steady and you shouldn't move the receiving clips inserted into the body work which should allow for easier re-installation of the trim panel. Only took 2 minutes to put it all back together. 2011 RR Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

Nice work! Thumbs Up

Got mine sorted, too. Turned out that the nozzles were blocked, as the water jetted out of the hose happily. Very Happy Regards,
