Pulling off in first gear (TDV8 4.4) 2011

When i pull off from stand still, the revs go up, then drop a bit, then go up, then drop a bit (almost like it is changing gear very quickly, but it isn't) then it changes to 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc absolutely fine... is this normal...

I've wondered the same - but how do you know what gear it's in?

Mine only shows D unless you use the flappy... Then D1 D2 D3 etc.

. Cheers, Greg

I have counted what seems like the gear changes, then pulled the paddle shift and it is never on the gear that i am expecting...

I wonder if the ID tool could change the display?

I think it IS going up through the gears... Cheers, Greg

I also do a bit of flappy action - mainly downchanges.

But does anyone know how to cancel and get back to 'normal' D mode.
Once I've flappy'd a bit I am flicking the knob to S then back to D but there must be a better way...?

. Cheers, Greg

Pull and hold the up paddle.

Cancelling manual mode by holding the up-shift tab works for me as I almost only ever up-shift but if down-shifting then swapping to sport mode momentarily is the only viable method due to the lack of a specific button.

Yea - cos it sometimes is a bit asleep when I suddenly want to overtake and pressing the throttle doesn't always result in a fast enough getaway I have to us paddles. You do thepass, come off the throttle and it stays in the lower gear... you want it to change up so you use the up paddle, so the timer starts again for it to go back into D. Pain in the bum. End us going S then D as others said.... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Just hold the up-shift paddle for a couple of seconds longer after a manual up-shift to resume full auto mode.

In answer to TOF's opening question.
Yes, I think it sounds exactly like mine.
The engine seems very free revving on initial standing start, but very quickly settles to little more than tick- over revs until the speed builds up and gets into higher gear.
I agree it would be nice if the display showed D1, D2, D3 etc, rather than just D. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

Maybe with the IDTool? I don't have one but it would be interesting.

And massive thanks to Freddie the Fish - have tried the up and hold technique it's great!
Have been downshifting manually then a long hold on the upshift paddle which gives me one manual upshift then back into D. All with one long hold! It's GREAT!!!

Works really well and solves a little bug of mine with this otherwise fantastic gearbox. It's gone from almost the perfect manual & auto combination to the perfect combination!!

. Cheers, Greg

Not tried it yet, but I did read the manual and it is in there. Not like me to miss stuff like that.

Cheers
