Portugal 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Java Black

Hi This post is really interesting! I think i will go to buy this week one TDV8 to replace my TD6. The TDV8 is from 2007 with 160.000Km.

What are the recommendations, to prevent this turbo failure and engine problems?

Should i go to an turbo specialists to analise the turbos condition?
Or only do anything like that if i had any symptom in the future?

I think i will order the EGR's emulator.

Many Thanks! Ex-FULLFATTY now downgraded

Have a good read of this thread and you will see there is no definitive or single reason for a turbo failing.

My preventative strategy is simply 10,000km service intervals, induction cleaner, and emulators to keep the EGRs in the closed position.

I've read servicing or replacing the crank case vent filter may help. And replacing the turbo oil feed and probably cleaning drain pipes to ensure they are clear. ______________________________

Thanks Rar

What is the induction cleaner? Can you explain me better please.
The Emulators is only available from Australia? I only saw there from the link you gave me.

I think i will do all the other recommendations, replacing the crank case vent filter, replacing the turbo oil feed, and cleaning drain pipes to ensure they are clear. Ex-FULLFATTY now downgraded

There are a few brands of induction cleaners. I use Revive as that's what my mechanic recomended. If you google Revive induction cleaner some good explanations will come up. There is also a YouTube vid to explain it. ______________________________

I've bought Autocode emulators. An alternative is mapping out the EGR eg with a BAS remap. ______________________________

I already found the seller of induction cleaner REVIVE, is close to my home Thumbs Up

Today i already spoke with Pete from BAS remaps
He asked me if the car has DPF? I gonna send chassis number.

Mapping out the EGR with BAS remap is the same thing of the Autocode emulators? The result is the same? What is the better solution?

I never thought to remap the TDV8 but after see this BAS remap with the EGR mapping, i searched on the forum, and i only read good things about remap on the TDV8. The consumptions are better? It worth it?

Remapping and emulators work differently for a similar outcome. Remapping means the ECU opens the EGR less so less exhaust recycled into the motor. With an emulator the EGR is unplugged so inoperable in the closed position. The emulator tricks the ECU into thinking the EGR is operating normally.

If getting an engine remap I would go with a EGR remap solution. I've read the engine remap is worthwhile. I would go this combo if you can. If not go with emulators. ______________________________

I have a quantum map in my 2007 3.6 and had the egrs switched off.
It made a big difference to the car , performance wise. I did have a turbo go several months after the remap but the FFRR has done 220,000 kilometres. I change the oil and filter every 8-10k kilometres and find the oil is like new each time.

A newer 4.4 does appeal but I couldn't find one with anywhere close to the spec of mine and after changing both turbos ( engine out ) I have decided to keep it. 2015 4.4 AB

Thanks Rar!

But if you have to choose? remap or emulators?
The emulator looks that are more efficient! Or not?
I still need to know if the car has DPF! I send the chassis number but he didn't figure out! I need to take a picture when i got the car! Or else only emulators! Did you receive the emulators quickly from the Autocode?

Dolph,

how did you switched off the egr's? With the remap?
How much it cost the two turbos? Is too expensive?

By the way can anyone explain me what is the DPF! Rolling Eyes

When i get the TDV8 in the end of this week i want to prepare to prevent any issue soon! The oil change and filters, the induction cleaner, the egr's by emulators or remap!

Many Thanks to all!

If I was considering an engine remap (and I would) then engine and EGR remap together. If only worried about the EGRs then probably emulators or if you have a DPF probably remap.

Some have found delivery from Autocode to be slow.

DPF is a diesel particulate filter. Mine does not have a DPF. Where a DPF is fitted I suspect the butterfly valves may largely close off normal air supply to increase EGTs to clear the DPF when the ECU opens the EGRs. The motor would probably stop if emulators had also closed off the recycling of exhaust. You could get the DPF removed, but would need ______________________________

EGR valves get closed when regenerating a DPF to ensure adequate oxygen for the late injected fuel that doesn't burn in the combustion chamber but in the catalytic converter to produce enough heat to burn the accumulated carbon in the DPF.

How i know if the TDV8 has the DPF or not? All the 2007-2010 TDV8 are not the same, some have and others donīt have the DPF?

I really want to know to see if is possible to remap the EGR's with BAS.

I try to contact the Autocode asking how long it takes to receive the emulator after purchase... and they don't answer back!!! Rolling Eyes Ex-FULLFATTY now downgraded

If the 3.6 engine has DPFs (1 each side) then for each side exhaust there will be 2 sensors in front of the 2nd "muffler" (not the one across the back) and another one behind it whereas non-DPF exhaust systems don't have any sensors before or after. The non-DPF exhaust has 2 catalytic converters each side whereas the DPF version has 1 catalytic converter then a DPF, a much larger diameter device.
