Possibly but it's not a good idea. The Ffrr is designed for 3.5 tonnes (more actually but for the uk 3.5t) and 150kg nose weight. Which is what the ball is designed to carry/pull.

Not much else is designed with these figures in mind so I wouldn't chance it. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I'd only use the proper item, the safety implications of getting this wrong are too severe.

There should be a red plastic insert (on right in picture) that goes in the end of the receiver when the swan neck is detached. The swan neck won't lock in place properly if the inside of the receiver is dirty and the insert should keep it clean. If yours has run for a while without, it is probably worth cleaning the inside and checking that the swan neck is locking in place properly once that has been done. Only Range Rovers since 1988

another thought swan neck locks on to receiver with key and key will not come out unless located properly. so do not tow with key in lock I have towed 2 tonne caravan on holidays for a number of years with no incidents or worries .

The Swan neck tow balls are different depending on which car they were designed for... not all the receivers end up at the same height, so they compensate for this with the swan neck part... Also the receivers don't all end up the same distance from the bumper, so the spacing differs too... And finally most Swan neck setups for normal saloon cars and are only rated at 2 tons, so there is every chance that the whole thing is smaller than a Range Rovers setup.

If you want a cheap hitch then remove the Swan Neck receiver and fit a Farmers adjustable hitch... can be had for £95 new and normally around £50 S/H

Is an alko ball necessary with the adjustable height hitch ? Thanks

AFAIK Alko is a manufacturer of trailer equipment, ans an "Alko ball" is a standard 50mm towball hitch, which is the EU standard, and every ones 50mm hitches are the same..

I had a Dixon Bate 5 ton combination hitch on mine... which is definitely something you cannot get if you're using the swan neck, you're stuck with towball coupling trailers, not the eye types  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

have you got air suspension? I am not sure what happens when you are driving or whether ride height is adjusted before it locks off but mine tows superb with swan neck ride height is never an issue

That is a function of the trailer electrics, when the ECU detects a load on the trailer wiring it locks the ride height and changes the gear selection pattern, it is nothing to do with what towbar is fitted  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I side-by-sided the westfalia swan neck on the BMW and RR. The BMW had a longer design (by about 1 inch). The connectors were the same, however the the design/robustness was a little different. The RR one had a thicker portion on the upper edge of the bar. Current cars:

Bud the only swan neck that will work with a Range Rover is a Range Rover swan neck, They are vehicle specific and type approved, if you were to suffer an accident towing with a swan neck from another vehicle there is a chance you could fall fowl of the insurance.... Also Vosa can check things like towbars, and towbar height....

And 90% of swan neck towbars are for 2 ton setups... they will not handle 3.5 tons...

There are 3 options

1, fit a swan neck and swallow the cost

2, fit the "farmers adjustable" hitch... which is easily removable, just pull the pin and it slides out, so you only have to see it when you're towing..

3, fit a totally different towbar, but be warned that the cheaper ones are fixed so you'll see the towbar all the time, and the ones that are removable are just as stupidly high priced. Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

that's an interesting one adjusting ride height with key fob must try that . makes you wonder why you would need that
