United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Santorini Black

Hi James,

I bought a 2011 4.4 TDV8 in December last year, had a loss of power couple of days ago followed by performance restriction. It seems I've got a cracked inlet manifold as there is clearly air escaping the left hand side as you face from the front of the car.

I took out 12months AA warranty from the dealer, which I'm hopeful will cover the repair costs.

Spoke with the dealer today and he suggests the likelihood is they'll only authorise one half of the manifold, he said it would be worthwhile getting the other side done and the cam belt at the same time at my own cost. (I'd be getting the second half and a cam belt change for roughly the cost of the cam belt change i'd need in the not too distant anyway).

Rich

Sorry yes timing chain, think they're recommended for change at around 105,000 miles. I'm on 83k at the minute and would likely hit 100k in the next 12 months.

Forget it! A chain should never really go wrong, maybe the tensioner eventually. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

I suspect the belt change interval is for the accessory belts.

Mine split last year whilst on holiday in France. Had to get a replacement fitted at the LR dealer in Nantes

No cam belt, only belts are the 2 aux belts at the front. As said at some point the chain tensioner might need changing but I doubt that would be anything like 100k more like 200k.

The aux drive belts are meant to be fitted for life, but as with everything they should be changed as a matter of course and the condition of the pulleys and tensioners checked. I can't see how changing the intake manifold on the top of the engine and changing the belts on the front of the engine have any relation in terms of disassembly. The top manifold is pretty easy to remove and doesn't involve taking the fan and fan shroud out which if I remember the aux belt requires. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Update is that it is one of the 4 rubber boots that has split, unfortunately not covered by my warranty but about £100 for the 4 boots and £150 in labour. So it could've been worse.

Dealer had mistakenly assumed I was in a V6 RRSport when I'd called about the issue, apparently intake manifold issues are far more common place on them. He said straight away this was running a timing chain and that wouldn't need changing.

Now just got to wait for the back ordered parts......

Thanks Baltic, that's a huge help.
Warranty cover was a 12 month cover policy via AA bought at same time as the car.
I will forward this onto the dealer who provided the vehicle, if nothing else but to ensure the updated parts are ordered.
Disappointing this didn't happen prior to me buying whilst the car was still under manufacturers warranty!
