TD6 Intercooler Hose again :@

It's still not right, I replaced the hose with a Bearmach one, convinced it was properly fitted but still seem to be having the covered in oil problem?
Took the Hose off and it seems clean enough inside... could it be the intercooler? Or a dodgy aftermarket hose? It feels really loose, as per my video?

Thanks for any advice, slowly losing the will to live!!

That is very loose, I just replaced mine recently with a Bearmach one and it is tight. Apart from looseness I would be concerned by the amount if oil you have there.

Thanks lounge on wheels

Have to try and work out what the problem is now then. It's awkward to get to isn't it!

I have just ordered a set of four black silicone ones for £110 including T bolt clips and postage. Just the one hose I needed was about £35 for a pattern part and I dare say, as one has gone, the rest are probably on the way out.

Have you fitted them yet? I did have a look at them yesterday the only thing that worries me is the fitting into the intercooler as standard ones have a clip type fitting, in not sure if a silicone hose would stay on?

It would be my preference if the kits are any good to fit one, I just want to be sure before parting with my cash!

Sorry to hear you still have probs,

Just checked mine - it's a solid fit. Not lose at all.

From memory there are two groves in the intercooler. When fitted the pipe sits right up against the intercooler itself. There is no movement in and out - It may be that it's no pushed on far enough for the clip to engage properly?

Check that the closer grover (to the intercooler) is free from crap.... as this may be stopping the clip locating.

One mine (before i attempted to fit it) i needed to rotate the clip on the pipe so it was in the 'out position' then with the pipe fully pushed on rotate the clip to spring into postion.

Still loss, groves are clear but it just won't go on any tighter! The seal has split and fallen out too

The engine bay around the turbo / exhaust is covered in soot so I'm guessing the turbo is knackered? That's what happened to our transit when the turbo was f***ed!

I really do give up I can't afford to even take it to an Indy right now 👎🏻 Scrap the damn thjng

Looking at a picture of a genuine hose, the part that clips on to the intercooler is held on the hose with a jubilee clip, so I guess you just do the same with the silicone one.

Is the seal you mention on the intercooler? Sounds like that might be the cause of it being loose.

Not sure what would cause the soot issue around the turbo. It could just be a loose pipe/connection. Don't give up on it now, have a break and come back to it another day.

I can see what you mean about the genuine hose, the bearmach one I have isn't like that! I was hoping that the silicone ones go straight onto the intercooler, losing the need for the clip mechanism! It seems long enough so I guess you could get a tight seal on it!

The seal is in the intercooler pipe, i expect it's what makes the air tight seal between the hose and the intercooler, only mine has somehow broken :/

Will have a look another time, until then it can sit at work feeling sorry for itself!

Whistle Is there possibly an 'o'ring missing?

I have never had that pipe off the TD6, and I'm unlikely to now as it's gone, but my Merc has a dirty big red 'o'ring in with the push on fittings to seal them.... without the 'o'ring things would be very loose Rolling Eyes Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I guess it's quite possible, trouble is pictures are very unclear on the internet, haven't found a close up of inside the pipe yet!

Here you go....

There is 2 'o'rings in the pipe fitting, if they left them out it is no wonder why it's wobbling and leaking

I've only found 1, I don't remember seeing 2 when I got the hose.

Guess I'm going to have to buy another one and try that.... not cheap either!

It might be just one, and it's a trick of the light.... but what ever the number there will be at least 1!!!

When I changed the top hose on the car I had a pig of a time getting the 'o'ring to slide on to the coupling... is yours pushed on far enough? Maybe remove the 'o'ring and see how far the socket will go on... I also discovered that there was a little tab to stop the hose from turning.. but it was slightly out so it was holding it all out of shape and stopping it from locking home.... I'd be inclined to brake the top connection, which I believe is a jubilee clip and try and fit the hose to the intercooler first. I know from experience that this type of connection can be a real pain in the butt when everything is new... a smear of grease to the 'o'ring might help too Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer...
