Start with the obvious - do you definitely have plenty of fuel?

Car was low on fuel yesterday! I don't normally let the light come on! Put £50 in and it went to half tank! Car has done15 miles since adding fuel! Could I have pulled dirt through and clogged the filter resulting in non starting!!

when was the last time the fuel filter was changed? other than that it sounds fuel pump related, possibly lift pump in the tank. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Black smoke indicates over-fuelling or severe restriction of air intake - basically extremely rich mixture. If that's sounds like what you saw, look for injector(s) stuck and pouring too much fuel into cylinder.

Mechanic has just called! Reckons that when he removes the oil filler cap the car runs! Put it back on and car builds up pressure and stops !

Not sure that is the answer, and why it runs as he is saying... anyhow someone with more nouse than me will probably have a better idea. Wonder if there is a crankcase breather problem. The crankcase breather/separator is located next to the oil cooler in the vee (behind the oil filter housing) maybe worth checking first.

Any idea of the cause Mikey? Too much turbo bearing movement or foreign object in the turbo? ______________________________
