Can't help with the code, could be the result of the low battery... If it doesn't return forget about it....

Although that error code is not uncommon on pre-’06 petrol models which have an externally mounted inhibitor switch, it’s much less common on the 6-speed transmission as the switch is internal

Thanks Phil. As said , I've erased the code and I need to take it out on a longer journey , the RR is my weekend toy and doesn't get used much.

A seized gear selector can cause this issue. Is the lever nice and free to move back and forward, or does it feel stiff/notchy at all? |

no, gear selector is smooth. ive tried the HDC switch that works ive also used the low/high range switch and i can hear the low box engage and drive in low box . all seems to work as one would expect |

Trying to work out when i started getting this p0705 transmission failsafe . could changing the gearbox oil and filter ? not long after purchasing this car i spotted a oil leak from the gearbox electrical connector sleeve. its possible that this p0705 error may have started after this oil change.

P0705 issues are relatively common on the 5-speed ZF units as the inhibitor switch is mounted externally (i.e. vulnerable to the elements) and the L1 to L4 logic function is achieved using sprung fingers mounted on a wiper sliding across contacts.
